I'm heading off to the vet in about an hour with Dixie. I'm hoping against all hope that it's pain from arthritis or something just as easy to deal with.
His breathing is a little shallow and he's clicking his teeth quite a bit, but he's eating normally, drinking a bit more than normal but I'm putting that down to the weather, but he doesn't seem to know where he wants to be. He's built himself a really soft nest which is why I think he's having good trouble getting comfy, is sitting on his wheel, but not running for more than a second or two, and he's struggling to get from one level to the next. Please, please be something we can get him through and control his pain levels.
He's chewing a lot of wood sticks so I don't think it's his teeth. The teeth clicking is when he's in his nest.

Well we're back from the vets and he's now on meloxaid as she thinks it is joint pain. His chest and nose are clear, his teeth look good (yes, he bit her while she was using the scope!) and she said he's in good condition overall. But she could hear the clicking sound he's making and thinks he could be clicking his teeth a little because he's in some discomfort.
Apparently he's been shown around a couple of the other staff as they thought he was gorgeous.
He's had a hazelnut as appeasement but has seriously told me off and now won't take treats from me.
I'm just relieved that he's OK.

Good to hear! Hopefully the new pain relief will let him get back to himself.

He's had a little sleep this afternoon after he had his meds, but isnt moving get around his cage much. Poor love is probably feeling a little stiff with all the prodding and poking. So I've moved his bed and his food to the quiet corner he seems to prefer and he's now eating some of his dinner.
I don't think the heat is doing him any favours at the minute, so I'm going to move his water bottle to a cooler spot too.

Is it OK to split the dose of meloxaid into two? It's hard to get him to take a full dose in one go as I'm having to put it on treats.
He's currently supposed to have .2, but I think he only got .1 early.

Yes, it's fine. Just halve the dose and give it twice Poor Dixie, the heat is a bit crap. My oldies have created another nest, which is basically a couple of bits of loo paper that they sit on. I've even been leaving the goo gate open so the air can circulate properly.

Yeah, I've had the window open, but I keep getting bees coming in. I've just given him a bit more, but he's definitely quieter tonight, the only move he's made is to go up to the upper floor bed. I think it's been an exhausting day for the poor lad, it was hot in the taxi, hot waiting outside for the vet, and warm in the flat.
When he is moving he doesn't seem fluffed up, and his eyes look bright, he's just a bit lethargic.
I'm just so worried about him, he's nine now.

I'm so sorry, Savvy! I do hope the pain relief will make a massive difference for him. If he is having trouble from inflammation, the heat could be increasing it. Do you have any ceramic or stone tiles that you can cool down in your fridge to see if that will help him?

And don't forget, snugglesafe also do a cool pad!

I think I have a couple of ceramic floor tiles somewhere, I'll give them a good wash and chill them for him. We are still quite cool at night so maybe that will help him.

He's out of bed, still a bit wobbly, but he's chewing wood and he's had a drink - and he's still not talking to me! Lol. I'll give him some more meds at lunch time.

He's now on antibiotics as well as a precaution, because he hasn't improved as much as they'd like.

I'm struggling to get meds into him, as he's not interested in food at the moment, and I know he's struggling in this heat.
I just want him to get better.

He's got white gunk at the corner of one eye today and I'm wondering if he needs an x-ray for his teeth, he's eating really slowly, but he's eating. He won't have his meds for love or money, so I'll see if I can catch him later.
Another warm day, just what he doesn't need.
Edit. Whatever is causing it, hasn't stopped him masturbating!

moletteuk bouncy deguconvert before I go down through route of trying to catch him and burrito him. I have some organic peanut butter, all that's I is are organic roasted peanuts, palm oil and sea salt. Can I mix his meds in this? I'm trying to reduce the stress on him as much as possible.

Yes, give it a try.
You can use anything that has a bit of mass to it for cooling in the fridge or freezer, rocks, bricks, anything pottery, sandbag, filled water bottle, I think the trick is to have several things in frequent rotation.
