Sorry for not getting back sooner, my battery died and after two all nighters I really needed sleep.
The vet is pleased with his progress, although he's still not right, he's a little weak, but is having little flurries of activity. He's yawning and stretching a lot so I think he gets tired easily. He's eating hay and chewing wood so I think he needs to get his teeth back in check after not eating properly for a couple of days.
I took a detailed two page account of his activities and behaviour since his last vet visit and also listed any changes to his environment and in the house. We think this could either be dust or a reaction to mould spores as I've been in the room with the damp a lot more in the last few days so the door to that room has been open.
He has to stay on meds for the next 10 days.
I'm basically being guided by him as to what he wants to eat and when he wants to eat it. But I'm still very worried.

I hope you managed to get some sleep. Absolutely let him eat whatever and whenever he wants, it can really help them to keep eating enough. The mould is a worry and frustrating as there's not much you can do about it. Keep us posted.

I've just managed (hopefully) give him his meds. He started running on his wheel as if to say 'look I'm feeling better!' I'm not sure how much he had as I think it went over him rather than in him, but hopefully he had enough.
He's just refused his apology hazelnut piece so I think I've been told where to get off, lol.
I'm going to leave him to settle now as I think I stressed him quite a bit.

Just given him his meds and I'm only making one comment; if degus had a swear box, Dixie would be bankrupt!

Try him with Captain Scarlet! Listening to radio dramas, Snoozygoo disappeared from sight the minute he heard the voice of the Mysterons, and Sillygoo froze as the theme played, even before I started singing along

He's mouth breathing again this morning, going to monitor him through the day and see how he goes. I've been giving him his med by pinning him, lifting his lips at the side of his mouth and squirting, it's the only way he'll take them.
He's drinking quite a bit though, but the tick in his breathing is back.

Do you think your local Covid support group could help you get him to see Wendy?

I've already asked, they don't class pets as essential.

And don't go out to Whitley Bay on Friday night wearing as little as possible, regardless of weather

Me too.
Whereabouts is Wendy the vet? There are covid support groups in North Tyneside, Seaton Delaval or Seaton Sluice, if you tell me which one I can join and try and get you a contact.

I'm in North Shields, Wendy is based in Southwick, Sunderland.
He seems tired today but otherwise acting normally, eating a little this afternoon, sitting on his wheel, but not running. Reggie is on heat so I think she's driving him demented again. It still sounds like there's something up his nose if that makes sense.
I'm going to try to get a telephone consultation with Wendy to see what she says. I can't get a video one as I don't have video calls on my phone.

OK, I've joined the North Tyneside group. So I think the way it works is if you wanted to try to get Dixie to Wendy if you sent me the details I message the admins on the group to see if anyone can help.

Dixie is booked in with Wendy and Joe at 11.30 in the morning for x rays etc. He's conferring with an exotics specialist in Edinburgh tonight as it's a confusing array of symptoms to see ifshe can shed some light on it. I think it's the same specialist @ntg uses.
