He said trauma to the mouth can cause it, so with her having regular incisor trims she's at a higher risk. I do remember that when I first got her when she had her dental work done a small lump was removed from under her tongue, so I wonder if that's what it was before as well. No one said anything about it bursting though and I assumed it was more mass than a cyst, it might have been something different but it's interesting that it's in the same place.
The vet I want to see is the same one I was very firmly told I couldn't see the last time I was in and she was there. She's the head vet, but still does consultations. It may have been that the receptionist was just having a bad day or something, the whole thing was bizzare. I only go to this practice if I suspect molar issues because my usual practice isn't confident in them, where as Jacqueline is confident with small animals and dentals, however this particular vets is quite pricey which is why I go to another vet for normal/obvious issues.

I'm sure we've asked before, but whereabouts are you?

That's a new diagnosis for me, let's hope the vet can figure out the best way to deal with it if it's going to be an ongoing thing. At my vets I can ask for a specific vet when I make the appointment, it doesn't always work out if it's urgent, but they don't seem to mind me asking.

To use a word I've learned on here, those vets sound very "stropy" and it's a good thing you don't make them your regular vets. They must need a good dose of castor oil!!

I'm in Grimsby, Bouncy I'm hoping that it won't be ongoing, hopefully it was something caused by mouth trauma and not an issue with the salivary glands, which is something I've read can cause it. The vets are very stropy! Haha. I've never had a problem with requesting a certain vet, I thought it was a common practice and is something a lot of places actually recommend so that you build up a rapport with a particular vet who knows your pet, but hey ho. There just seem to be very few vets around here that are confident/experienced with small rodents, sadly. It was the same when I kept rats years ago. Tonight marks twice in just as many days that Riley has wriggled away whilst feeding, and has had me chasing her around. She's as slippery as a fish! It's good to know she's not letting anything slow her down! Goo has been her polar opposite and fell asleep in my scarf, the cuddly little Goo-Bear

It certainly isn't an issue to ask for a specific doctor or vet that I've come across. If does mean that you may have to wait a bit longer, so obviously not an option if it's urgent, but.......

Quick update on Riley - she's at the vets on Thursday to have the ranula removed, since it hasn't burst and is growing. They're also gonna check her molars and do dental work if needed. Riley is fine in herself, apart from being a little thin she is as bright as a button and is wolfing down the recovery mix And there hasn't been any major fallings out since the last incident! Whoop!

Those last bits are great news. As for the first bit, I'll be hoping and praying for a most excellent outcome and recovery!

Riley's home!! She came through the surgery really well. It turns out there were actually two lumps, one behind the other, and the vets aren't entirely sure what it really is. They said it could just have been a ranula, or it could be a tumour, and it might come back. Since she had a small lump removed when she first arrived, I'm not sure what to think on that. They did say it was different and 'more of a mass' than the last one, so I guess we just wait and see what happens in the future. Her molars were a wee bit pointy, so they were burred just to be on the safe side. Despite the possibility of the lump coming back, I'm pretty chuffed! She's settled back into the cage with Bounce for the night and after a few days I'll be able to start weaning her back on to dried food Although now I'm kinda used to our morning and evening routines of a cuppa, audiobook and syringe feed haha The total bill was almost £100 less than the lowest end of the estimate, too! So pleased! Can't wait for her to start eating solids and put some more weight on. Then we can continue with the intro's once she's fit and healthy and ready to roll ^_^ Goo will be so pleased, haha.

I'm so chuffed for you!
Scaredy bounces back faster and faster from his dental, and will now be eating again in a matter of hours.

Aww, thanks guys Riley is putting weight on, although is slow to gain so I'm still hand feeding to add a bit of fat to her until she's a good weight again. Today I did the first intro since the girls big fall out and it went rather well! Bounce is adamant she wants to be top dog, and isn't willing to shift on that. Goo is resisting, but not horrifically, and things calmed down after several chases, some boxing, humping and lots of scent marking from Bounce (myself included! Not quite what I signed up for hahahaha!) Goo got batted around a bit, but it hasn't stopped him trying to love them haha. By the end of it he was happily grooming Bounce, and she gave him a tiny little groom back. He and Riley get on rather well, and give and take with grooming and sitting together, although she does tell Goo to bugger off a fair bit too. He has the most pathetic look on his face when she does this, haha. Riley is pretty cute in the play pen. She's a percher, so sometimes if I rest my hand in the cage she'll come and sit on it. In the pen her favourite place is my lap, although when things were kicking off between Goo and Bounce she clambered up to my shoulder - whether it's to keep out of the way or for a better view, who knows! There was a little chasing and bickering between the girls, but nothing too far out of the ordinary I've left the pen up and plan to do a 30-40 min intro each day if things continue to go well (or I'll reel it back if things get too tense). All in all I'm pretty pleased!

Hey guys! Sorry it's been so long since an update. Riley is off hand feeds and is eating on her own, she's still thin but is slowly gaining and looks more like a normal Goo each day - she weighs 160g now I was tempted to keep hand feeding to fatten her up but didn't want her on it for too long. She wipes her mouth a lot, so I wonder if her low tolerance of Goo is from discomfort or whether the mouth wipe is more like a habit now? I upped her metacam for a week but didn't see any difference in her behaviour. She is eating normal food, albeit slowly (the same as she's always done with nuggets). I haven't seen her drooling, however the fur on her chin is giving way to skin again and although it doesn't look wet or damp, could that be due to drooling? I'm keeping a keen eye out for any wetness and haven't found a thing. She refuses to take any food offered to her, including the treats that she used to like but stopped taking not long after her first major dental so that isn't really a new thing. It's quite rare that I see her eating, but the daily weighing shows she is. She's bright and bouncy as always, but seems to feel the cold a bit more than everyone else so I've been putting a snugglesafe in with her and she loooovves it Intro wise, things are going well. The girls haven't had any big spats since being moved into the bottom of the aventura. The roles have totally reversed and now Bounce and Goo are getting on really well, with only the occasional, short lived box, some vocal bickering and a whole ton of grooming. Riley, on the other hand, has decided she wants nothing to go with Goo, which is so completely different to how things started! She tells him to bugger off when he comes near, and he listens and backs off for all of two seconds before returning again, giving it a few more tries, and then admitting defeat and sulking over to me for scritches haha. They are all comfortable eating, chewing and bathing in each others company, and I've started putting a snugglesafe in the pen with them to encourage them all to bed down together. They were all in the house with a snugglesafe for a good ten glorious seconds before Goo got asked to leave, but I'm so pleased! The girls don't mind Goo's company at all so long as he's not pestering them, and they're all happy to sit or chew near/next to each other. I've been scattering forage in the pen and it's proved quite successful in getting them to focus on other things, originally I was worried it'd add conflict but it has worked really well! (Just as I was about to send this saying I rarely see Riley eating, I turn to see her chowing down on a nugget haha!)

That's excellent news all round (and long overdue for some photos!!)! You've got a wonderful bond there with Riley The fur loss could well be to the constant face wiping and drooling? Oh, and ignoring isn't a bad thing. It's not as if they're fighting. It's just obvious who wears the trousers in that group, and it isn't Mr Goo..........

Good point! I'll try to update the album tonight Not only does Goo not wear the trousers, the poor boy's not even allowed to /look/ at the trousers hahaha! Tonight there were a few little spats, but there hasn't been any 'fighting' in a long time And by the end of it Riley had relented and let Goo onto the snugglesafe without too many grumbles! He still got booted out after a few minutes, but that's a huge improvement from a few seconds! I think maybe because the intro stretched closer to an hour this evening? I might do another long one tomorrow and see if it helps Riley and Goos relationship. In other news, we have a squeaky gate and Goo shouts every time it's opened. He keeps alerting me to the trick-or-treaters before they knock, he's a way better guard than my dog! Haha!
