I'd keep her name as Dave, Brent Spiner once misunderstood and thought my name was Dave, and when I tried to correct him he was dead sweet and told me "it's ok, you can be whoever you want to be at a Star Trek con". Which, if I had been wanting to be a Dave, would be awesome. As it was, at the time I was mortified because I was trying to get his autograph for my friend Dave who'd helped me afford to go to the con in the first place. That photo I got signed for him says "be who you are, Dave!" and is signed. Dave was a little confused when he saw it

Okay so I did a big clean out of Flashs cage and they are in there now, they have been for half an hour and had no arguments, they seem very excited and after exploring everything they have been grooming each other, I'm home all day so I'm probably just gonna sit and watch them, the other cage is ready if things go down hill.
The only thing I worry about is Flash grooming her too rough, she does the little noise to let him know it's too much so I think it should be okay

How exciting! Congratulations! Sending lots of positivity that this all goes well Toby also makes this noise when Boo grooms him, I think it is a pleasure noise rather than a pain one... Similiar to the noises the males make when they mate - it does sound painful to us, but clearly isn't for them!

That's good then! Thankyou for the support ☺️ He hasn't mated with her yet, I don't think he really knows what he's doing, they are in the wheel together and it's making me so happy that they have degu interaction, I hope it lasts

When we finally put Toby and Boo together it was so so lovely watching them, I didn't relax fully until I saw them settle down into the nest together at night. It was such a good feeling thinking they'd been sleeping alone for such a long time, and now they finally have a snuggle buddy for life

That's fantastic news! How did the day go? Do you feel comfortable enough to leave them overnight?
It's very nerve-wracking to put two goos together for the first time, but I'm glad you bit the bullet. Now, you know what we're all going to demand, don't you?
P H O T O S!!!

They had a tiny argument but it was really nothing and they made up immdeiatly after so I felt comfortable after watching them to leave them over night, I did listen out for any fights and I've checked them this morning and they seem really happy! they completely ignored me when I went in but normally they would be desperate to come out ☺️☺️☺️
I have no storage on my phone so I need to dump my photos and then I have a fresh gallery to fill of Flash and Dave
I am so happy and so are they so thankyou so much everyone for all the knowledge and support, if I hadn't of come here Dave would probably still be on her own being called a he.

Dave does not want to know me now 😂 she sniffs me and then looks at me like you aren't a degu or food so I'm not interested

Wonderful!
And to think, only 2 months ago, Dave was a "he", living alone, and "can't be introduced to other degus". Good on you that at least (s)he wasn't in a thickets cage!
It just goes to show how having the right information and a caring owner goes a LONG way to proper degu care.
Congrats dtd for the success!

Exactly! The fact that these companies are selling degus and telling people there is no way they can go with other degus is crazy! On more then one occasion I revisited the same pets at home they told me not to try. I feel like giving them a lecture to be honest. Dave is one of so many degus this happens to, Flash being another and so many get posted on Facebook too.
Its like a human never getting to interact with another human, if not worse. Not shaming anyone with a lone goo as there are always reasons for it but I am so happy I tried and very happy that it all worked out. I just feel bad for how long Dave was alone even before I got her.

Quite the contrary. I feel like you have made a big difference for them in a relatively short period of time!
People are people, I feel like we see a wide range of reactions to advice given. From my perspective you have made steady improvements in their lives on a regular basis. That's a really good thing. Dave probably spent more time than that in their previous living situations which did not get better...

I agree with Zenaida, you have moved things quickly forward in good time!! You've really taken on the mountain and conquered it!
