But seriously, if you want them, you may have them when they are old enough. They are super sweet, and it wouldn't hurt me if I could say people overseas wants my animals

Just get the ferry Ntg! Do any of the Newcastle ferrys go to Denmark? Can't be that far off, probably only several hundred miles lol, what's a few miles for those little furry faces?!

Showed my kids the photos of the kits, and they all love them too! They would absolutely put on a lot of pressure for one if you were closer!!
Edit: If you were closer, I would probably HAVE to cave in and get one or two . . . or all three . . . LOL!

It is possible to take the ferry to the UK from Denmark, not sure where to though. Not sure Oslo would be of much help savvy. It's still a long way away. It's a 6½ hour drive to where I'm at. It is possible to go from Copenhagen to Edinburgh though. Anyhow, I'm putting them up for sale next week. I think it would be a lot easier to source local chinchillas for you guys Also I guess I kind of need to sell them for some money, as I have to take their mum back to the vets. This far it cost me about 164 pounds. If i sell them all together I'm hoping I'll get between 118 and 140. Gah. The pain of breeding. It doesn't even cover vet bills. At least I got my last chinchilla for free. That kind of helps - not really And now a bit of breeder price ranting. I really do not feel I should take more than 35.27 (300 dkkr) each. But I'll sell them at 58.78 each (500 dkkr). Looking at the market, people ask for crazy high prizes. No established name, often no background info/no pedigree and they ask 58.78 for one kit. So I'm sitting here thinking, I really shouldn't offer my animals at such low prices as I feel I should be, because I've been doing this for the past 13 years. And I have a lot of information on chinchillas. So I'm not really only selling my animals, I'm also selling my knowledge. And if things are not as they should be, I offer a new animal or a refund (depending on the situation). When I sell, the owner gets a pedigree, about 500g of food. about 500g of sand. A bathtub for the chinnies to take their sand baths in. A bag of treats/forage (small one though). Most just offer the pedigree and the food. "I want to breed my chinchillas" I said. Stupid, stupid me -_-

You won’t get a pedigree and you’re lucky to get a small bag of food! Like three days worth.

It is possible to take the ferry to the UK from Denmark, not sure where to though. Apparently Newcastle to Gothernberg was the closest option but that's since been cancelled. Hey though, if they're still looking for a home come June then I can totally take a *ahem* scenic route home from the Netherlands It might feel wrong to you to sell them for more but don't underprice them for the market. People should be paying for your experience and ongoing support so do charge more if inexperienced breeders are managing to sell at higher prices than yours!

If you really want them, I can keep them for you. That's not a problem. They can stay in with mum and dad until may 31. (12 weeks) so it's no more than like 4 weeks I need to get them their own cage. To be honest I'm not underpricing. They really aren't worth that much. It's every one else who's overpricing. Especially the none-pedigree breeders.

Wow. Over here, if you got a chinchilla from a pet store, it could be $150-$300, which is 900-1800 dkkr, and 106-318 pounds, if my interneting is right. From a breeder, $75-$200 or more, depending on color, so that's 450-1200 dkkr and 53-212 pounds.
guess that's why they're not so common over here, not nearly as rare as degus tho, and yes, there are rescues full of them anyway.

We also have our fur farms to help set the price. If you can get a good quality pet animal from a one of them at 500 dkkr (59pounds/83USD) it's kind of idiotic for a low quality show animal to be above that. IMO the prices are way to high in other countries. Especially when looking at how little people know about the genetics, and general care. Not that people treat their animals bad, it's just that my-way-or-the-high-way look on things. Like all the stuff they can't have, but then people give them polar fleece hammocks... That's plastic. I do believe they start around 86 pounds (120USD) in countries like Sweden and Norway. Some of the best breeders I know can't sell their high quality standards if they are above 35-41 pounds.
I do not want to give the animals away for free, but at the same time the price really should reflect what people are getting. An average of a little under 60pounds is fair in my mind. It might also have to do with the currency. 500 is a nice and round number. It's a bit on the expensive side, but most are willing to pay that amount. Kind of funny people don't mind paying 600 pounds for a new phone they will keep for a year or two, but spending 60 on an animal is thought of as excessive.
One thing though. You talk about them not being normal in other countries. Yes, we do have quite a few here, and we do have all the mutations over here too, but were are only 5.7 million people.
Pet stores are charging waaaaaay too much over here too. I do think the prices are going up on the pet chinchillas though...
As for the degus, not as common as chinchillas (they were a few years back), but they are sold for 10-25 pounds. Actually someone just gave away 20 degus (no, I didn't ask. I really do not want to know why someone has that many degus they are giving away for free)

Degus are really rare over here. And I can guarantee you that they gave away 20 degus for free, because they can't tell male from female and they don't know that they can get pregnant again in the first 24 hours after giving birth. Or by about 8 weeks old. Or anything at all about degus.

So today an other girl had a litter. Not really a good thing as the dad is her dad. Well crap happens and this is just my crap. She's 9 months so she was too young when it happened too. Atm everything looks fine though. I removed dad and I'm not planning on putting him back in. Not sure what to do exactly though. She's in with her mum and her 3 siblings. So 5 little babies in one cage... again. Everyone is doing fine. I'm not really scared anything is wrong with them. There's a lot of linebreeding going on with chinchillas, so I highly doubt anything will be wrong with them. But now I know she carries the violet gene. Dad is a carrier and one of the kits is a violet.
Anyhow, this ebony gene (colour on tummy) is starting to get on my nerves. Dad should be an ebony, but doesn't show it. Mum clearly shows ebony. None of the kits show ebony - like what the *****. So as discussed elsewhere on this forum, it can't be a matter of only one gene... There must be something else to it.

I'm not sure if I should commiserate or congratulate.
How many in her litter? When do chins become reproductively mature? Degus, if they have abundant, excellent nutrition, can be ready to reproduce very early. Females as young as six weeks, and males as young as 9-10 weeks.
