Yea... Bad news... Maja has went from 210grams to 193grams....secod..her molars on the left side are overgrown, and she will need teeth correction and an xray, the xray costs 40 and the teeth correction 40-70euros...also it will not fix her breathing, since he would have to do a surgery that he's never done before(take the things out of the nose) and then he found that in the third eye thingy (the one you close ur eyes idk how it's called) found a small growing thingy that's white and he doesn't know what it is, the surgery would have to be on Friday on Monday, I have to decide tomorrow if I'm gonna take the risk, it will take 3-5hours with recovery at vet. Anyone had a sedation and if yes, can u tell how it went?

I'm very sorry to hear this.
My old boy Dixie had to be sedated about 6 months ago due to breathing problems. He's 9years old so he's getting on a bit. We thought it was either his teeth of a chest infection as he was mouth breathing and was in a very bad way.
They had to sedate so they could get an x-ray and obviously with his breathing it was very risky, but I, personally, felt it was a risk worth taking and I have confidence in my vet. It turned out that he had a very small piece of food lodged in his nasel passage and it had caused swelling, which had blocked his nose so he couldn't breathe. He's still on steroids 6 months later and is likely to be on them for life. The food had dislodged on its own, but had caused a fair bit of damage.
It took him a few days to recover, and he lost a lot of weight during both the recovery and the illness. He went from 315g to 243g.
You need to weigh up the pros and cons of whether you believe the risks to be worth it. Talk to your vet about how confident he is about the procedure.

I believe my vet is very knowledgeable and trusting since hes got 11years of only rodents vet experience, and he mainly does the teeth for guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, a lot of degus too. I think I will do it, what do you think?

In the UK it's fairly standard to do an xray to check on the situation with the roots and then do trims regularly as required and give lomg term, sometimes high dose meloxicam for degus with root overgrowth. We tend to recommend supplementing vitamin d too which can help slow the rate of trims required.
None of the extra difficulties the vet has found sound familiar with what we have seen on the forum before, so it's difficult to offer an opinion on that. I suppose you could get the vet to do the xray and trim and try meloxicam or steroids to see how much that helps and see how she gets on before you go for a bigger, unknown surgery.

I had a goo who was sedated regularly. He had molar root issues, and had the spurs on his molars trimmed every few months. He coped very well with the anaesthesia, and it got to the point when we both realised when he needed a trim. I'd come in with the carry cage, he'd trot over to the door, let me pick him up, and off we'd go together!
The things in the nose - are those molar roots? I have another two degus with that issue, but it's something that tends to be left in the UK. I also have another one with misaligned molars (little Sausagegoo). He's had one trim in four years, but seems to have adapted to it and keeps them trim himself. The vet was against trying to realign them, because it would most likely break the jaw.

also the vet said that he mainly does the syringe sedation, since its hard to fix the teeth with it, but at the x-ray i think i will ask for gas, or is it bad to mix two different things?after the xray/surgery he will give her some things that will help her to wake up (Maja is a deep sleeper:)) he also got me some uculoheel that is for the eyes for all degus that have white tears in eyes, he also said he will send some photos if shes sleeping peacfully before/after xray and surgery, if he has time, the surgery we planned is at monday. (he will do the surgery alone) They also calculate the body mass and then add the sedation by that, so maja wont get the too high dose. p.s greetings with sakura who pooped a hundred poos in my sleeve:)

You can try offering an extra good treat that will keep her in one place, like a pile of small seeds or oats, or keeping hold of half a walnut while she nibbles that. Or, you may need to 'burrito' her, which means wrapping her up in a cloth so she can't move.

The white stuff from her nose is snot. My regularly sedated goo always had a wet nose, and it was caused by his molar roots. Nothing could be done, except removing the largest bits of substrate and food that would stick to it

Oh alright, glad it's not really dangerous, but the buritto method doesn't work:) she can escape it, by getting her head (i dont even know how she gets that done) like doing a front flip and i cant keep her still:) but its ok since the treats work:)

Yeah, it's hard to use enough pressure because you don't want to hurt them. At least you've found something that works!

Well, it's been two weeks, she is still at 193grams sometimes at 194, i don't understand, when you feed animals a lot of food they don't gain weight! (happened with my friends cat too) but if you don't feed them they gain a lot of weight, ugh!

The positive side here is that she hasn't lost any more. Don't forget, until she is fully healed, she may have trouble. It's possible that only having soft food hasn't helped to keep her teeth short. Is she eating normal food again yet?

Hi again, she didnt start eating hard feed, but is chewing some walnuts, lettuce. Shes now 191grams sadly, but shes getting stronger, running in the wheel. The surgery we made a decision, we will do it, and for the time ill tell later, hoping it will go well.
