Fred outside, Newt inside. It was during play time, so they had access to cages and the play area.

It sort of looked territorial to me . . . do you think it might be? Degus that get along in their space, or outside of the cage, can sometimes suddenly become very territorial over a corner, the underside of a piece of furniture, the leg of a human . . . just about anything . . . and will dispute when in that spot, but go somewhere else and they are great friends again.
Hmmm . . . reminds me of my kids fighting while traveling in the van when they were little . . . "MOM!! He's TOUCHING the arm of MY CHAIR with his SLEEVE!!!" "Well . . . SHE'S BREATHING at me!!"
Eye rolls unending!!!

I think that's it exactly. They've been butts about that area before.
Hahaha, I can totally picture that! Goos really are like kids sometimes...

They were grooming literally just before this. Does this look territorial? Should I take a break on letting them have play time together? youtu.be/O3yRREvnX10

Looks like dominance issues.

Pups and Fred are sharing play time now and Fred sounds like a grumpy toddler who doesnt want to share toys. They pick the weirdest areas to be territorial over.
The pups, particularly Newt, are getting big enough and confident enough to really challenge Fred, which he doesnt seem to appreciate. But they all still settle down for grooming sessions, which is good!

New observation today! With the current layout, Fred's heatlamp is on the opposite side of the cage from where the pups are. He usually likes to sleep right next to the light. I looked over just a few minutes ago though and hes laying next to the pups through the bars!

Perhaps worth chancing another into? Having said that, what are the pups doing?

I don't believe they're ready to live together 24/7 yet. They get play time together every morning and night though. Newt is usually great with Fred. They groom and play. They do have a few spats when someone gets possesive over something, but nothing out of the normal. Pickett started doing something weird. He runs up to Fred, ducks under his chin and starts grooming him. When Fred looks like hes about to reciprocate, Pickett turns and shoves his bum in Fred's face. Fred will circle Pickett, as Pickett continues to turn so his bum faces Fred. Eventually Fred pees on Pickett and leaves. So yeah...

So Pickett is saying "here's my bum, dominate me!", and Fred is replying "meh, yeah, alright, can't be bothered."

Haha, silly goos. Goo logic is beyond me sometimes (mostly, really)! I'm hoping that they'll calm down by the end of hormone season.

It's all good as long as nobody nips his toes! I've got to say it looks a little more reasonable when a degu does it... You should see a chinchilla perched on the doors

I cant even imagine a chinchilla doing that! How do they balance??? The mauraders were distracted, so I let him look around for a bit

I cant even imagine a chinchilla doing that! How do they balance??? I don't even know He has excellent balance yet at the same time he's the one who falls out the cage because he's gotten impatient about something If anybody needs imagery it kinda reminds me of that Pixar short "For the birds" I've had to start closing the door with my hand over the top of the door to stop him jumping up.
