Thanks, Deguconvert! I really needed to hear that. I do hope this set up will help out, maybe they'll start to think that they could possibly, one day, get along. Haha, I wish it were so straightforward some times! One of the things that makes me feel better is that Newt and Fred get along so well. So at least Fred isnt totally a lone goo anymore

Good idea, Molette. I may put up a barrier to block the lower levels of each cage. Might help ease them into it.
Playtime was initially with all three, but I quickly put Pickett back in his cage. I have a rough cardboard/white board/whatever was sturdy enough wall that I put up around the cages during play time to avoid goos seeing other goos.
I'm definitely going to hold off with Pickett and Fred for a while. Give them a chance to adjust and forgive (maybe...) each other!

Progress with Newt and Fred! They've spent two nights together with no issues whatsoever. Fred has calmed down so much with him, barely any jumping, no yelling except for what I expect to set them off (sandbath mainly).
Oi. Off topic, but I've just had quite a bit of practice trying to be top goo with the mauraders. It worked when I was close by, which is not super helpful when I'm trying to do a cage clean. But they did stop fighting instantly when I yelled at them. Maybe I should get a squirt bottle for distance top-gooing...

If you do want to go down that route, they'll hate you (or play up in hot weather just to get a cool down), but try a plant mist spray as opposed to a supersoaker!

It really is one step forward, one back with goos sometimes! I'm not sure what's setting them off, but Fred has definitely started yelling at Newt again. Could be that pups are now about 17 wks old and stretching their wings. At least they can still spend some time together! And I feel like Fred and I have bonded beyond my expectations honestly. He was always much more skittish than his brother, so I am really happy about that.

This was the most recent interaction between Fred and Newt. Pickett is hiding out in the wheel away from the action. It started when Fred was nosing Newts face but wasn't getting any reaction. Thoughts? Now they're all cuddled up. youtu.be/ZB5iduqMlzM

Pickett looks like a little child hiding in the wheel - if I don't move, he can't see me!
Do you mean all three are now cuddled up?

I know, that was my thought!
Yep, all three of them. Since that interaction they've all been together for about two hours. They've had two 30min cuddling/grooming sessions.

Yay! I'll just keep reminding myself to go slow. It was nice seeing them all so friendly though

If it's any consolation, both of my groups have random moments of squabbling, some of which can last for hours. No group is harmonious all of the time

Hahaha, they're degus, it would be too easy for them to be happy all the time

Newt went belly up for Fred several times tonight! And no take backs as of yet!

Suggestions?
Pups and Fred are happy to cuddle and groom while in the bathtub (only has their scents), but don't do well when in the play area outside their cage (Mauraders scents too). I'd like to be able to let them out in the play area, since it is a much bigger space, but I don't want to set back the progress they've made. The play area is covered with carpet, which I'm sure holds smells really well. Thoughts for what to do? I was thinking about trying to cover the play area floor with a large towel they've been on in the tub. Or do you all think it's not worth it to rock the boat?
Thanks in advance!

I think it's worth a try, a big mat of some kind might work better than a towel, maybe a piece of lino or rubber floor matting or a cheap rug with a rubber backing.
