Looks great & it must be nice to have no bedding spills out of the cage. Everyone looks so happy & settled too. Wish I had funds to get something similar.Great thread for inspiration to others

Ummmmm
How do you guys with loose substrate keep their food and forage separate? I’m feeding them loads every other day and it’s all disappearing as I have the substrate a good 5 inches or more deep and they kick and dig like crazy, which I like as they seem to enjoy it, but their food vanishes!!!!

I have separate piles of hay on top of the substrate then I sprinkle the forage into the hay. The girls still kick substrate all over the hay (they have developed an obsession with having the plastic sheeting showing in certain areas lately) but the feeding area remains more or less intact so I can monitor wastage.

Not sure if I posted this but Cal managed to get the boards from work for free!!!! They’re grey so it’s gonna look a bit weird but who cares it saved me close to £100!!! Yay!!! We are doing them this weekend so by Monday night everyone will have a full second level installed!!! Woohoo!!! Depending on how much of a good mood Cal is in, possibly jumpy and running ledges too.. 🤔 I need to buy mesh though to attach to the underside of the board so I can hang stuff 🤪 but I’ve still saved a bomb! Success!!!

Okay so the date is set to do the vivs! Cal has booked two days off to get them done. 12th and 13th June woo woo!
We’ve got the melamine wood for the levels, we’ve got all the pine we need to do lipping and ledges... got mesh to attach to the underside of the melamine level so that I can hang stuff in the larger area.
He’s made me four nice houses at work too.
Definitely going to use a lot less substrate lol.. I’m gonna have the top level as the eating zone, with minimal substrate cover.. Cals gonna make lidless wooden boxes so I can stuff all the forage in there so it doesn’t get lost in the substrate like I’m battling at the moment.
Once all the vivs are done I’m gonna work on getting Pinky and Perks in with another pair 🤪 I had a dream about it last night and it went well. Plus with the signs I’ve been seeing from them I think it could definitely work. I’ve had P&P just over two years now!!! Got them March 2016. Crazy!!! So they’re definitely old enough to have mellowed out fully.

Viv finishing day today woo!!!
They’re all gonna have their second level in and lots of running ledges and perches etc 😁😁
May run over into tomorrow have to see how it goes and if the weather holds up (doing it outside and it’s v cloudy). Cals just gone to get the rest of his tools from work and I’m emptying out the first Viv 😃

We’ve also decided not to stack 8 high, or even any more high, the ones on the bottom would not hold it. They hold fine now they’ve been reinforced but I definitely wouldn’t risk putting another one or two vivs on top with full levels in and substrate, toys etc.. would be my luck to wake up one day and have pancake goos and chins ☹️
So my plan is to once everyone has had their work done and settled, to try and get Pinky and Perky in with another group, giving that group full run of two vivs, so four levels of 121cm long, 65cm deep.
Then when we move and have more space, do vivs going along a wall rather than up so I can use 8 vivs in total 😄
Weirdly enough, despite going from an aventura to a one level Viv, other than Pickle freaking out about Demon and attacking Pumba, there has been 0 aggro. Pinky and Perky have totally mellowed out. The chins got along from day dot in the Viv whereas Alfie was out for blood in the aventura... all in all I really am glad I swapped!
With the new level in however I’m gonna need to do something re the lights as now the bottom won’t be lit up 🙃

I’m livid.. because we’ve run lights through two vivs and we need to take the vivs apart, we are gonna have to cut the lights.. if we unstuck them they wouldn’t have enough sticky to restick...
Nice waste of £45 on lights 😣
