I think they are stunning, and all the babies look so happy and contented in their new digs. WONDERFUL!!
I had TOTALLY missed the part in your video that includes Alfie and Paddy . . . left the room I guess. Have seen them now and WOW!! Paddy really has grown!! He's AWESOME! Love that his head tilt is so much improved! He really looks like a healthy and happy fellow now. Most excellent!

Vivs are still holding up nicely!
The lights however, did not 😂
Only Poppy and Kev have a strip of lights now as everyone else pulled theirs down.
Really need help thinking of how to implement permanent lights.
Even if it’s a UVB lamp each, it’s just where to put it combined with the facts there’s two levels so I need lights to access both.
🤔🤔
Getting all of their hanging stuff in on the weekend finally, where there is room anyway. There’s not loads of head height 😩
The wooden ledges are taking a bloomin pasting too lol, some have completely disappeared! Which was nice for me to see, Cal was ragin his craftsmanship had been demolished 😂
I’ll take some pics when I’m home!
Had a lovely snuggle with Pops last night. Proper grooming sesh, taking it in turns to groom each other lol. She always bites my knuckle skin 😂

I definitely think when I buy a house, I’m either gonna convert a whole bedroom .. subject to some arguments I imagine lol, and offer Cal the garage as his workspace 😂
I think the vivs are a great budget idea when you have so many animals. They’re working fine 🤷🏼♀️
But I think next time because I’ll have a house and it’s my own house so I don’t have to give a poop about what anyone else is gonna say. I’ll do a wall of enclosure. From floor to nearly ceiling, for each pair. So I can get that head height and have lots of fun hanging stuff, some huge vertical branches etc.
Just need to save and I need to have a house before all my guys peg it 😂 Pinky and Perky are like over two now! 😩 Old biddies lol

Glad the vivs are suiting you and goos! That is my biggest downside with solid shelving - less hanging space! It doesn't affect the top pair, but with my bottom pair it is restrictive as to stuff like rope bridges, hanging toys etc. We have put little screw in hooks for the hammock, but are quite reluctant to put anything else up for fear of damage. I did attach a long tube onto the ceiling once with velcro - I was so proud of my ingenious idea however after 3 weeks of having it in there and it not being used once! I took it down. Would velcro work in the vivs?
I can imagine it must be difficult to hang anything up in there - I still have one side of bars to use for toys etc but can no longer attach anything to the perspex sides which is a shame. The mods I made to my cage are working great but I can't change things around as much as I used to during cage cleans... The layout always ends up basically the same.
If I won the lottery I would (very very nicely!) ask Rob to create 3 or 4 more cages the same size and spec as ours and create a little degu heaven for a couple more groups. I wouldn't want to become a rescue or anything like that, but just have enough to be able to give them all a decent life with loads of attention, space and resources. Your clan are all still young and healthy, I'm sure they will all still be with you when it's house time!

How did you get on with them with the recent crazy heat too? Did you have to do anything differently, for the chins in particular? How are you planning on attaching things to the ceiling?
I have no suggestion for lighting unfortunately, I wonder if those push lights would work attached with velcro to the ceiling. But then you would be going through loooads of batteries. I just have a lamp next to ours on a timer.. Doesn't really apply this time of year, but it's a must in the winter months when it is dark by 3pm. Rob made a suggestion of covering the strip lighting with mesh... Dunno how that would look though.

My home made vivs have the same issue. For the lighting we plan on putting a strip bulb just inside the top of the cage at the top so they can't reach it. Not got as far as installing it yet but when we do I can put a pic up and let you know how it goes. I use little screw in loop things as long as the screw bit isn't longer than the wood your screwing it into you should be fine. I've got them in several places with no problems. Again I can put a pic up if you like

It was warm but no warmer than being in a cage. I have a thermometer in each viv and one in the room. Yeah, covering the strip lighting with mesh would work I think, but it would be a nightmare to implement lol!

Yep it would! That's brilliant that they stayed the same temp as a cage would. I used little screw hooks too.. We are still paranoid about them sharing a cage after the chaos last year so wouldn't want to cause anything which could give them a clue about each other's neighbours or accidentally cause damage! 8 months on though and B&H are still blissfully unaware of the two below them... Or just do not care one bit about it! Toby knows about the girls but doesn't bother trying to get to them unless he is out with us, Boo is so relaxed nowadays that she must feel secure that the girls are no longer a threat for her as she did before.
