misscatafer I've just sent them a complaint about the whole situation asking why it has happened and how stressful it will be for Kev now he's lost his companion.

Being a bonded pair, they really should have had an unbreakable provision that they not be parted under any circumstances. That is really poor management!!

When we were there there was another lone male white degu (cannot recall the name sorry) who had been part of a trio and left alone while his other companions were sold as a pair.... how awful is that! The staff member told us it had happened by accident by a new member of staff who didn't realise that they shouldn't be separated. They had then tried to pair him up with another group of babies but due to fighting they then kept him separate. He looked so sad... was he still there too?

Hi all. Apparently Kev was with Kieth and it turned out Keith is a girl and they made babies.
I'm trying to convince them to give me Kev and for them to pay for neutering. They said they are only going to rehome him alone. They aren't gonna rehome him to someone who he males which really annoyed me. They said it would be too difficult.
So I'm gonna try and convince them to neuter him and give him me. It's annoying because when you adopt guinea pigs or rabbits you get a neutering voucher as part of the adoption. You don't with degus. So I'm gonna play my face. They said he's 5 months old. BS. He's huge no way he's 5 months old. He's bigger than my two one year old girls. He's full agouti. Hopefully they will agree to paying for neutering. I have a spare cage he can go in I just need to buy some rods.
You all probably think I'm stupid for trying to take on another degu. But I do not want him sold alone to be miserable and depressed. He's lovely. So yeah. He has a cage to recover in, and I'm gonna put him in with Pinkie and Perky I think. I'm hoping it will calm everyone down.
So then introducing Poppy and Pickle to the group will be easier. If that happens I'll connect the three lazybones to my 5 tier cage so they'll have plenty of room.

Do you guys think I'm making a mistake? I just feel awful thinking of the situation he could end up in.

It is really admirable that you care so much, and would do this.
But, what happens if you get caught with pets? The more you have, the more likely you might get caught. Think carefully on this, first.

Well it takes up no more space when hiding to be honest. I'd put up another lazybones whilst he recovers and then hopefully in with Pinky and Perky. I'm hoping it would calm everyone down from hating eachother and he'd have a nice home.
Would you do it? My mom cried when we left him there.

I have a dog, two cats, three degus, 51 birds, and a goldfish. I'm not the one to ask if I would do it. Of course I would. How else did I get so many creatures? Maybe your Mom needs degus. If you get caught, would she take them in for you?

Probably yes she'd take them in. Also someone has a staffie dog in these apartments and have lived here over a year with it so I have ammunition in that department.

Pets at Home won't do anything to help. Ringing all local vets to see where's best. P@H do it for £65.. I don't think that includes any extra appointments etc. Vets4Pets do it for £63 including 3 appointments and pain killers. Mom said she'd go mad if I pay that much I thought P@H would co-operate more and see if they could do something. PDSA don't treat degus.

Just rang to double check that P@H had the price right. She didn't. They don't know how much it is. She's gonna check with the vet who's in tomorrow. I explained the situation and she said (the receptionist) I'd be concerned about whether they'd all accept eachother. I hate it when people try and tell me things about degus when their track record for degu care sucks balls.

I think it is a lovely idea, and one that I would like to see work out. I just want you to be sure it is within your ability to do in all areas of concern, space, finances, time . . . etc.. I can tell you are already head over heels in love with him.

I have time etc I just don't wanna pay £65 plus adoption fees on principle. Plus mom would kill me. But I love him. There's always vouchers for neutering cats dogs and rabbits but never degus or other small animals.
If it's around £40 I'll pay it.. I love him.
What would you guys do?

Hi there. Sorry to jump in. One of my degus recently passed away and I have a very lonely boy on my hands. Is the lone degu up for adoption at pets at home? I am looking for a friend for him but he has always lived with older degus so would be worried about him being too much for my boy?
Thanks for your help

Whereabouts are you?
Yes he's in Pets at Home. They clearly know nothing about him.
He's from their breeders, he got a female accidentally pregnant or something which apparently was Keith but it all makes little sense to me. Said he's 5 months old but he's not. He's huge he's clearly way older.
How old is your boy?

My aunt has just offered to pay for the neutering, if I do her nails for free 6 times lol. I have the money, so don't want you guys to think I can't afford him. My mom doesn't want me spending £65 on neutering which is understandable.
What do you guys think? I really want to know your opinion.
I want to give him a loving home, which he'd have here with great company.
Introducing him to males would be hard.
Nothing known about his age though I would say he's at least 1. Nothing known about his health.
Would having him improve my girls lives? They'd have a new friend. He would have two lovely friends. Would it hopefully make getting Pickle and Poppy with them easier? They could then have one huge super cage, with three lazybones stacked and combined to it.
I have a spare lazybones he can go in for the time being, just need to buy some metal sticks from b&q.

We are in Buckinghamshire so quite a way but his last friend who recently died we rescued from Lincolnshire. It worked out perfect cz they were the best of friends for 3.5 years but sadly now rufus is alone wondering what's going on.
Pets at home never seem to be able to give a good background to any of their animals when they are in their adoption centres.
Finding it very hard to find a single male degu. Rescue centres I have called only have pairs. My boy rufus is nearly 4.
Thanks for your help
