Just a wee update. We got an appointment at The Ark this evening. The Laurie group didn’t have anything available until next week and I don’t think DJ would’ve made it that long. The Ark seems like an amazing vet and they had plenty of experience and confidence with degus. The vet herself was super gentle and kind. She noted that DJ bottom dental roots were palpable and she said that feeling root disease usually indicates that there’s stuff going on up top. So DJ has been kept overnight, they are going to medicate her and syringe feed and hydrate her, which is something I was really scared to do because I’ve actually had an animal aspirate and die when I syringe fed tomorrow morning she’ll be sedated I think under the bell (?) , X-rays taken and the procedure done. If that is what exactly is needing done, the whole lot will cost me £75 - which is less than I was expecting by about half. Obviously the pain meds will be an additional expense. My overall thoughts on this vets as a first impression is that they seem to know their stuff, so the anxiety at leaving one of my babies behind was manageable.

I don’t actually see The Ark listed on the form, so I’ll add relevant info if admin is wanting to include it.
Ark veterinary clinics 479-481 Main Street Coatbridge ML5 3RD

This vet was recommended to me by Lawrie or Laurie veterinarians, as well as pretty much every other vet I called in search for an exotics with degu experience.

If they aren't already on the list, and you find them to be good, we can add them, especially if you can get the name of the vet who's treating DJ.

I’ll get her name tomorrow, I wasn’t honestly paying attention to that bit at the time lol 🙈 she was a lovely woman though and would likely make a fine addition to the list.

I have today spoken to my vets again to source some probiotic for Dixie as the antibiotics are affecting his gut flora. They put me in contact with website called vetark, www.vetark.co.uk who are an health site for pets. I spotted that they have a link to search for specialist vets in your area. I thought it may be of use www.vetark.co.uk/pages/Vets-Search-Results.aspx?vt=&area=I haven't tested it yet.

Thanks gabba I think we should add it to the list at the beginning of this thread. We do have a couple of members in Lithuania.

Oh, I just realized that it might be helpful to provide the info of my Finnish vet, in case anyone goes looking for that kind of info.
My vet, Johanna Raulio, is located at Vantaanrinne 14, 01730 Vantaa, Finland, and can be reached through the phone number +358 400 619 985. She's an exotics specialist and very experienced with degus, and has handled all of my degus after I learned of her. Her rates are also very reasonable all things considered!

I've asked my friend in Newcastle, and she says Judith at Firstvets is excellent with guinea pigs and hamsters, so she's a good bet for degus, definitely worth ringing up and asking anyway if nearer you than Durham Here's the contact details: 81 Station Rd Forest Hall Newcastle upon Tyne Tyne and Wear NE12 8AQ 0191 2666286 Just switched my guys from The King's Road, to Judith at First Vets. She's seen both Clint and Sphene and really knows her stuff.

It's official - John Chitty and his wife have both retired! They are no longer part of the Andover practice they founded. According to his LinkedIn profile, though, John is still open to consultancy, and available for locum work.
Of the vets at the practice, Rebecca is still available. Today's vet, Maya, is also very knowledgeable.
