I'm sorry, I don't think we've had any members from the channel islands before. Perhaps you could search other rodent forums (hamsters & rats have good forums) for recommendations.

Have you tried ringing vets around your area and asking if they've had any experience with goos/know about them or are willing to learn? They should be happy to answer any questions, and they might even know someone they can refer you to.

Lol nah, vets are aware that people just want what's best for their pets and small animals tend to be something you choose to specialise in as they don't really teach you about many animals past the classics on vetmed degrees. Plus the most important thing is that you're happy and confident in your vet, so if they aren't willing to answer any questions then chances are, they aren't the vet for you.

You could try starting a fresh thread to get more attention, aren't there quite a few forum members in your area?

For North Somerset and Bristol area: Watkins and Tasker Vetinary Group www.watkins-tasker-vets.co.uk/Yatton practice: 57 High Street Yatton North Somerset BS49 4EQ Vet: Mario Amaral, he is awesome. Knows a lot about small animals and is beginning to specialise in exotics and is so comfortable with anything we threw at him. His wife is a vet too at Langford so has great contact too if the worse ever happens. Taken degus, cats, and reptiles too him.

Hi,
I want to highly recommend Stan Livy from Goddard Veterinary Group in Eastcote. He is the only vet out of all the vets we've tried who has any idea really about how to treat degus, and we've been to lots. He really knows his stuff and I will never take my degus anywhere else now. He also does other exotics including fish. If you need a vet please try him first.

Think I'm possibly the only member in Plymouth, anyone else out there, please get in touch. However if you are down this way, got to be the vetinary hospital. It is actually a group, I use the main hospital, they neutered my boy, no problems. It isn't something they do regularly, but all the vets have special interests, so I got passed to the one who does weird pets! Phone 01752 702646 Website (has a contact bit, so good for asking questions) www.plymouthvets.co.uk

I'm with Manor Vets. They're quite expensive but they seem to be good and pretty much next doors

I would like to recommend Swanspool Veterinary Clinic in Wellingborough,Northamptonshire,England. The Vet I saw tonight was lovely and clearly knew her stuff. As a result I had one very calm degu and was one happy owner. :-D

I hope this is okay for me to post, but I thought a recommendation of a 'good for other things, worth a shot for degus' was better than nothing in terms of geographical coverage. Then people can directly enquire if needed, at least Howells Veterinary Services Ltd., York Road, Easingwold, York, North Yorkshire, YO61 3EB Tel: 01347 823678 Email: office[at]howellsvets.co.uk (non-emergency) www.howellsvets.co.uk/This is the practice I go to and they're much the best in this general area; they're not on my doorstep, but worth the travel. They're in no way self-proclaimed rodent specialists, but general expertise is good and they're honest about issue-specific knowledge/ experience. Also happy to go away and research and just generally discuss treatment options openly rather than filter 'what they thing you'd want' in their heads and not fully discuss as some others unhelpfully do. Species-wise I'm there a lot with rats, I've had phone consults regarding hamsters, and I've even taken them an African pygmy mouse to be pts. If one of the degus here required the vet it'd be here I'd go without any worry about the care standards. I prefer to see either Becky or Anna, but I've seen other vets too. The nurses and support staff are also lovely.

I think this is the basis for many of the recommendations, so I'll add it to the chart when I can see straight
