My dad came in my room to talk to me and wanted to look at the degus, fudge is usually scared of my dad. I thought she was hid on the wheel behind the sand bath, but when I moved the sand bath her face was facing the floor. We didn't know what was happening so my dad pick her up to looked at her and cuddle her when he put her down she was layed on her left side not moving like her left side was paralysed just breathing I thought she was dying. My dad went to pet her. As soon as he did she got up and was walking around very alert of everything. I've never seen anything like it I was crying. Does anyone have any idea what happened?

Oh no that must have been quite a shock! I'm glad she snapped out of it though.. phew!
Maybe she just literally froze as they do when they sense danger sometimes, and then she snapped out of it once she realised your dad wasn't a threat?

I had something similar happen at the vets with Dixie a couple of months ago, it was literally fear. He let me pick him up, something he never does, and then let me carry him to the table. Then he had to be wrapped in a towel as he bit the vet!
It is a normal fear response and it is possible she was just startled, but keep an eye on her.

Sometimes an animal gets into a deep, deep sleep. When disturbed, they can't wake up out of it quickly or normally. So, you get weird things like this happening. And then, when she did manage to awaken, the fear at not knowing what was going on may have had her so freaked out she just froze for a minute. Ever tried to wake someone who just wouldn't wake up, no matter what you were doing?
I'd just keep an eye on her, without being too paranoid, and certainly don't keep waking her up to see if she's okay, she really won't like that. Unless it happens more than once, I'd just figure it was one of those weird things that sometimes happens.
I had something like this with my finches, once. I didn't know it at the time, but when birds sleep, on a perch, they go into a kind of paralysis, so that they don't fall off the perch while sleeping. So, it's morning, I uncover the finch cage, which always sets all the birds flying around in a short panic until the cover is pulled off and the realize it's just me. But this one finch was just frozen in place on the perch, looking like it was about to launch, but just frozen stiff!!! I'm looking and looking, he's not moving. So I open the little door, reach inside to shoo him off the perch, and instead of flying away, with feet still clamped around the perch, he just swings upside down, still stiff, and is now hanging upside down and just staying there!!! I was so freaked out, I thought he'd died and went into rigor mortis with his feet clamped around the perch and I now had a dead finch stuck to the perch hanging upside down in the cage! Completely freaked out, I got brave enough to try and grab him to remove him, and FINALLY he woke up and flew across the cage. And was fine. But I was so completely terrified and horrified.

Fudge just done it again. I heard a noise so I went to look and seen fudge facing the corner not moving also a scratching sound. I picked her up and put her back down and she was just still not moving when pet her I felt her rib. I picked her back up and cuddled her and talking to her until she was able to move. I really wish I knew what was wrong 😠Can't lose her

I'm sorry DL21, how worrying Has she collapsed each time? She looks able to support her own weight on her legs in the video, and her head is in a normal position, was it worse before you started filming? I think if she is completely collapsing after losing control of her body then I would get her to the vet, it could be something like a fit. If it happens again see if you can video the worst bit to show the vet.

can you get her to a vet today hun? Hopefully it's nothing, but it might possibly be epilepsy or something. Worth checking with a vet soon as possible I think.

That sounds a bit like my Flossie when she is having breathing difficulties, the noise tends to come from Flossie's head rather than chest, but sometimes her chest will heave like that. Maybe there is a chance Fudge has a sinus infection that could affect her balance? The breathing issue could just be a side effect of a fit though. Definitely get her to the vet, they will be able to listen to her chest and breathing, tell them about the epilepsy looking part too, take the videos with you in case they want to see.

Let us know how she goes at the vet? It's fab you've got her in so quickly, you can't do any more than you're doing. Have to say, I watched the whole video & she looks in great health generally. You've obviously been keeping her really well. These things can happen, but it's not any thing to do with your care. Is that Coco saying hi in the video? She looks really well too : very happy, calm & inquisitive. Lovely looking degus you have Good luck at the vets xx

Ok so went to the vets, the vet checked her blood level . It was 6.0. She wants to be sure how often the episodes are happening so I've got to keep note of how many she has etc when the vet is sure it's happening a lot etc she's going to give her meds. I asked about an infection she examined her.she said very unlikely.she hasn't had one since 6-7am this morning but she has eaten since then. So if her blood level is causing it.which would explain why she hasn't had one since this morning cos she's been eating. I think she said the breathing was happening due to the stress it put on her body.

OK, that makes sense. When you say blood level, do you mean glucose level in the blood? Did the vet talk about sugars or glucose?
Have you noticed Fudge drinking more than usual? Did the vet ask about drinking amounts?
