I don't know if this will be posted in right area but any I was thinking about buying a fan for the degus, my bedroom is hot my windows are wide open, the silly question is would the fan effect them.

You can try a fan, they might enjoy it, if it upsets them and they don't get used to it just switch it off. I don't think degus sweat quite the same as most other mammals so it isn't going to cool them as much as other animals, but it should help a bit. You could try freezing some large rocks for them, or freezer packs or even a snugglesafe might hold low temps in the same way it holds high temps.

I'm thinking the same thing DL21, just to circulate the air not directly blow on them. Tibbs has the whole floor upstairs right now and Garf is downstairs in the big room with me, casually just napping in the middle of the room π I had to shut the balcony as he was straight out there in the dogs basket πππ my dogu

DL, you know those freezer packs you can buy and put them in cool bags for picnics etc. Get a couple of those and put them in the freezer. Wrap them with tea towels and they LOVE to lay on them. I did this all last summer for Garf Can get em in pound shops

I'm afraid fans won't help degus. Humans sweat, and the fan helps the body evaporate the sweat from the skin, which draws heat from our bodies, which cools us down.
Go to somewhere like B&Q, and get a couple of the cheapest single ceramic tiles you can. Put them in the freezer, then put them in the cage! Totally chew proof!
If your goos are chewers, freezer packs won't last long, and if they're filled with gel instead of water...........

I tried the tiles and they just didn't keep cool long. My blocks are pretty hard core plastic and I find they're too pooped in this heat and loving sleeping on them too much to even consider getting through a tea towel to chew. If chewing is an issue with your goo tho you could always wrap the block in some wire mesh and then a tea towel, they keep cool for hours.
Maybe even a heavy tile placed over a cool block?

I'm thinking the heat is why Pinky has been wailing all day. The goo room seems to be the hottest room in the house, go figure.
I'll go buy some ice packs the weekend! Unless I have one somewhere? π€

I've got four tiles. I put one in each cage, and swap them over with the other two in the freezer. Even if they're not chilled, the tile surface itself is still cooler than the substrate.

I know degus hate getting wet and it's not great for them, but what about giving them an ice cube each? I know it won't cool them down, but that's the only cold thing I have right now lol...
Just to see what they do with it? π€π

Freeze some bricks. Will hold the cold longer than a tile.
Oh, just had an idea! Freeze water in a shallow tray, like the bottom of a flower pot or a small ice cube tray or a small food storage container. Then put the ceramic or terracotta tile over the ice tray. That way the ice keeps the tile cold, the tile protects the little tray and is heavy enough they probably won't move it.
