Bummer The vet didn't even ring me this morning I just rang them again and the receptionist said I don't know why she didn't call u as I put it in as an appointment but she's put a note to call me back tomorrow as she's gone home!!! How useless are these vets!? Ok so I guess I'll just carry on with the anti's and cover it with a tissue if it carries on bleeding for the time being, what a disaster... might try phone the pdsa to see if they can help, I'm really worried!!!

Just unprofessional of the vet. Is it worth just getting the surgery booked in?

I would keep ringing in the morning until you catch the vet, don't let it ride incase the vet goes home at lunch time, a lot of our vets seem to work half days. See if there is any chance of them operating this week (if that is what they recommend).

So the vet did ring me tonight and I managed to catch the call!!! So basically, the lump is a tumour.. She said there is no signs of infection so the antibiotics aren't really needed to be continued as it's not infected, but to continue to watch it and if it's still bleeding a lot then book the surgery in soon as possible because of loss of blood and of course discomfort. So I'm jus trying to find the best time I can bring her down when I'm not at work and I'll be calling back to arrange it... tonight the lump doesn't look as if it's bleeding at all and seems to have scabbed over, so fingers crossed it stays like that.. she discussed pricing over the phone with me too, and said if I wanted to find out what caused the tumour it will be extra but I just want to go ahead with removing the lump and getting pepper better with my money tbh. I'm a tad worried it's growing a little bit too only a little though.. gosh I really wish I could turn back the time and not have that first vet squeeze it like he did!!! Angers me!

Oh no, I'm so sorry. I'm sure she will be okay though. At least this vet got a diagnosis, we all make mistakes and you shouldn't feel angry about going to the first vet. They're professionals after all. She should have tested to see what it was before prodding it all over the place.

It does look like it's growing a bit, and a tumour explains the amount of blood - they are good at creating additional vessels to feed themselves. Tbh, if it were me, I'd want it gone asap :/

I just feel like the first vet shouldn't of squeezed it cos it was tiny then it got large and was bleeding so much! Pics speak for themselves I just hope she pulls through ok, she's 5 so will her age affect how well she will cope? I'm a huge worrier! Yeah I'm going to get her booked in asap, poor little soul

Knowing cells as I do (I work a lot with cancer cell lines), I don't think the squeezing would cause it to grow larger, if that puts your mind at ease any?
And as said before about the anaesthetic, degus seem to tolerate it fairly well - like with most things they're stubborn and persistent little critters and aren't half as delicate as they first appear.
With regards to it being a tumour, I imagine the testing they are on aboutvdoing with it will be to see if it's malignant (cancerous) or benign (not cancerous). It might be worth asking about testing and seeing what they would want to do in both situations... I imagine the answer will be sit back and observe for regrowth in both situations but it's always good info to know just incase they would suggest more.
Keep your chin up! We'll be rooting for your little one, and we're happy to lend an ear and offer support and reassurance to you too of course!

That's strange that she's saying don't continue the antibiotics, it's not infected as you have been administering them I'd have thought! If you stop, an open wound is likely to become infected surely ?

My niece's hamster had a big swollen lump around his eye. The vet said it was a tumour and that he'd need to be put down the following week, because he's around 3 (quite old for a hammy) and she didn't think he'd survive the removal of the eye.
Anyway she gave him more eye drops and said just try make his last week as comfortable as poss. The drops didn't help, they seemed to make it worse. So they stopped the drops and spoiled him rotten, preparing to book him in. In the next couple of days the eye swelling just reduced on his own and is now gone!!! It wasn't even a tumour and he almost got put to sleep over it 😱
Do vets call lumps and bumps "tumours" a bit too haphazardly? I hope not because the word scares the beejeezus out of us.
Anyway hang on in there x cornflour works because it coagulates when mixed with liquid and will create a temp seal. I used some last night in cooking and had to scrape the spilled flour off the worktop 😂

Thank you all for ur support I did think that, as the antibiotics are going to help it to not get infected!! I haven't given her over the last 2 days but I have tonight, and I tried to book her in and she's saying to call back Monday cos no one is in today and would need to book her in with a specialised vet as the vet who saw pepper isn't available until Feb 9th!! And if it is cancerous it needs to come off sooner than later !? And because of the discomfort and the bleeding I think we'd both rather it off sooner! So now I have to wait til Monday to get her booked in! I really wanted her in for surgery on Tuesday because I haven't got a day off from work until the following week after! The vet did advise me as I did ask would it be better to get the surgery sooner than later or is it going to be dangerous and she said it's not dangerous but only for discomfort or loss of blood. So I dunno I think if they found cancerous cells she'd of said? As she said she didn't find any abnormal cells... That's good about the anastetic then. They are stubborn! Little fighters! I just wish her to be better again all this waiting around is making me feeling uneasy and drained I guess!

Also I know what you mean about the hamster... that is pretty bad I once had a hamster with a leg injury they said to remove the leg but we left it and the leg healed by itself!!!!!

Pepper is booked in for surgery on Wednesday. I'm just praying for her that it's a simple surgery and she makes a full and speedy recovery afterwards. I'm trying not to think about it too much as I'm overthinking with it all and don't want to worry myself too much so trying to stay positive!
