She isn't eating much - seems to have little appetite. I gave her Metacam last night but it doesn't seem to have helped much. Will keep trying to coax her to eat.
She is coughing now and wiping her nose and chewing on the straw mat. She comes up to me to greet me but, when I offer her a treat, she walks away. It is as if the smell of food turns her off - maybe she feels nauseous?
(She likely has molar roots growing into her nasal cavity.)

Just an update: I have established a whole special feeding regimen for both Peridot and Ni. I set it up so that my mom could look after them while we were away on holiday last week. Both Peridot and Ni are stable if not slightly improved.
The regimen is easy enough for my mom to follow and involves sunflower seed paste, a mix of Selective Science pellets/oats/sliced almonds/dried peas/puffed rice and other treats, as well as baby food mixed with crushed pellets or Critical Care, and Metacam once every two days for Peridot. They also have available at all times dried plant matter, degu mix seeds and alfalfa hay as well as a bowl of Versele-Laga Degu Nature because it is made up of pellets and other edibles of varying shapes and sizes.
So far, so good.

Peridot seems to be having problems eating again. Started having issues yesterday. Spent the morning meeting with a specialist surgeon to consult on a mass on the back of our cat Vesper's neck. She is undergoing an incisional biopsy right now. And tomorrow I go in for dental surgery. So I am so grateful that Dr. Auger had an avaiabily this aft at 3:30 pm. Just pray that Peridot makes it through the anesthesia this time. (Now just trying to fit in as much "work work" as I can until then. We rely on "work work" to fund all of this but lately it has been getting the least attention. )

I'm so sorry Peridot is having trouble again! I pray she comes through like a champion, and that there is great news for Jesper.

Peridot had three spurs removed - one large one on a lower left molar pressing down on her tongue, one large pointy one way back on her left side, and one very small one on the right side. No wonder she was looking so miserable. Caught it early enough - she poopooed and did peepeed in the carrying case so she still was eating and drinking something. Right now, she's a still a bit groggy but I am sure she will be back in good form in no time. (Also fantastic news about Vesper. When the vet took the tissue for biopsy, he noticed that the type of cells were not tumor-like. Instead, he believes it is an "atypical abscess" and he went ahead and removed the affected tissue. The tissue was still sent for biopsy results but he is confident that the issue has been completely dealt with. She is home now with a large incision and many stitches on the back of her neck. )

Peridot has a sarcoma on her left rear leg. She has been scratching and licking at this part of her leg for the past months to the point that there was little hair left on it. On Saturday, I noticed that it had become a crusted-over sore, so I made an appointment with the vet. Soonest I could get was Thursday (today). I treated the area with Polysporin - it looked like the ointment made her feel even more irritated because yesterday the sore began to bleed and grow much larger. My husband and I cleaned the area yesterday. It did not look infected. The vet felt a mass in the area so he took samples - a slide dab of the blood and a fine needle biopsy of the mass in the area. No infection, but he diagnosed it as a sarcoma which has burst through the skin. Because of where it is located, the only cure would be to amputate the leg but he does not think she could survive the surgery. She is old (almost 9 years old) and weak. She gets winded easily and falls over on her side. So, he prescribed an anti-inflammatory ointment Theraderm to be applied twice a day to help make it feel less irritating to her. Best scenario is that it will be slow-growing. Right now, she still runs her wheel (albeit slowly) - so, as long as she can endure the regular molar trims, she hopefully has many happy days ahead of her.

Ah! Not good news at all! I'm so sorry, Yasmin! I pray it will be very slow growing, and better yet, it'll just disappear. Sending you love and hugs!

Thank you all for you kind words.
Unfortunately, the tumor on her leg seems to grow larger every day and her breathing has become very noisy. She has her moments of brightness though; very thankful for that.

Peridot has been having trouble eating. She seems to only be able to eat soft liquidy food and coughs or has discharge from her nose after eating. She is also open-mouth breathing. The vet checked her out. Her lungs sound clear but she has problem exhaling. Her tongue is cyanotic. He thinks that either her heart is enlarged or she has a tumour in her chest that is pushing on her lungs and esophagus.
The sarcoma on her leg is growing. She falls over easily and has trouble righting herself up. I have to accept that euthanasia is the only way to relieve her suffering. I wasn’t ready to make that decision today. 😞
