Had to take Peridot in for her first tooth trim today. Vet found that one of her molars had grown partially over her tongue. Her tongue was injured but it is free now.
She had stopped eating Tuesday night. She would pick up the food, try to eat it then drop it. When I gave her softer food to eat, she tried to eat it but it seemed to just stick to her front teeth – not go into her mouth. When she did open her mouth, she left her jaw open and frantically moved her head around, I guess to try and free her tongue.

I'm sorry to hear this, did it start quite suddenly? Is she around 6 or is she older? I'm glad is sounds like it was a relatively simple procedure (for your guys), I hope she is bouncing back.

It's May now – 2 months later – and I've had to take Peridot in for a second de-spurring. Usual signs – selective eating, weight loss. She had two spurs on her right side – one growing inward toward the tongue, the other outward into her cheek. She is in pain/discomfort now and refusing food; hopefully she will begin to eat again tomorrow soon.

Still puffed up a bit and not eating normally but will happily take sunflower seeds, puffed rice, and other "treats" when hand fed. Last time it took several days before she started to eat pellets again so I will give it another day before I start worrying. She did run the wheel today

Gave her Metacam yesterday via puffed rice bits. This evening, she's finally started eating hard food again (sigh of relief).

Peridot is beginning to look poorly. She is eating but is probably developing spurs again. Not bad considering her last de-spurring was in May. I will be keeping an eye on her and will take her in to the vet if her eating becomes impeded or she starts drooling – some indication that it is indeed spurs.

I'm so sorry she is looking a bit poorly!! I hope it is very soon evident what it is. Maybe she will yawn for you, wide and long, like Mr Grey does for AMC. Wouldn't that be helpful!

It really would be helpful, imagine if you had a video capturing a yawn in high definition that you could replay, pause, zoom.
7 months doesn't seem too bad for Peridot.

Took Peridot in to the vet today. She was still eating – just started making this yawning motion with her mouth after she eats sunflower seeds. She had two spurs on her left side molars, one at the bottom and one at the top. One of them was growing toward her cheek; the other, heading toward her tongue. She is 7 years old now and her last spurring was many months ago (I think over 9 months ago). Vet said that the older they get, the slower the teeth grow and so spur recurrence slows down too.

That's a blessed relief for the both of you! Glad you caught it so quick and well. How is she doing? Did you already have the spurs removed?

Yes, the spurs have been removed. Just fed her some thawed frozen peas with Metacam and she is eating her dried plant mix (and rolling in it too, oddly )

Bless her. Interesting that their teeth don't grow as much as they get older, good to know. My younger goos try and roll in the dandelion salad even though they have a fresh bath available everyday. Odd indeed!
