Hi, my names Marlena. I'm Polish. Poorly know English so please bear with us. I registered because I want to start doing the same food for degu. I have 3 females degus. Currently, I buy food, but I want to start doing the same. Now the only thing I do is the same herbs. Forum is great. Really like it. I am surprised at many things, such as the fact that degus can eat acorns. I will only read. Not write.
Yours, I'm sorry for mistakes. I hope you understood me.

Hi Marlena and to the forum. Your English is good and easily understood, so please write as well as read. In particular if you have any question about natural nutrition, don't hesitate to ask!

Really helps me google translator. Usually I stayed on the Polish forum about degu and reading the information contained here many things I'm very surprised. About many things, especially as regards diet Poles do not know. I have a question about life expectancy degu. How many live in your degus? I'm going to completely eliminate the purchase and serve food that you do the same.

Degus can live sometimes up to 9 years or longer, however the majority live between 5-8 years. A healthy Degu should live past 6 years old.
Don't worry about your English is good enough and if your using the translator then that's ok too. I understand what your saying and welcome to the forum. ;D

Thank you very much for your gracious welcome. I feed my degus Versele Laga Degu Nature and my herbs. But I want to do your karma. In total there are lots of suggestions but none is adapted to be administered daily. I wanted to make a few baskets were mixtures diversity. I have access to many of the ingredients because I live in the countryside. I can do a mixture of herbal food basic but I have a big problem because it is after all, provides the basic energy. So if any of you been to so nice and showed me where I can find a primary mixture would be very grateful.

I try to write in English because I know that it was difficult to you if I wrote in their native language. The links really, really thank you. If I create a mix, I hope I can count on you in the assessment. You have a big cage for degus. They are great. My degus live in a cage 70x40x100 but I'm going to zoom in on an apartment .Polish is a minimum for 3 degu 70x40x80. I would like to show my hammocks for degus, I can do it here?

Absolutely, we would love to see photos of your hammocks. I would suggest that you can post those in the Chat board, or in the Degu Pictures board. BOTH if you wish!! I look forward to seeing them!!

Hello Marlena, welcome to this forum. I recommend you not to buy such colourful degus, because there are several concerns with such special coloured breeds. With a look to the gerbil breeders (they are some decades of development and experience ahead) we can see the fruits of such an extreme breeding, they have so many troubles with behaviour and health of their animals as well as the lifespan of the gerbils decreased too. I really hope, that we don't make this mistakes with degus. That would be a good idea . By the way here in Germany many people have their degus from animal shelters and from animal rescue organisations. If you understand a little german you can have a look at e.g. www.deguhilfe-nord.deor www.deguhilfe-west.de

Thank you. In Poland many degu have genetic defects by irresponsible reproduction. Inbreeding. There are many degus to donate. In Poland also are organizations and help as we can. I plan to enlarge herd when I finish a new terrarium. I do not know German, but the translator will help.
I really like to work in Google Sketch Up. It is easy to use. With desire I'll add here my initial draft of the terrarium.
We have a Polish forum for Degus. But Here is more information.

Yes inbreeding is a problem but not the only. I think in general breeding all this different colours in such a short time is a hazard, because animals exhibiting the needed genes are like the needle in the haystack, they are rare and have similar genes. For the biggest changes in the outfit it is important to enforce the selection of similar animals, even they aren't related, but the genes are in some manner. There is no time for regeneration and a genetic bottleneck is enforced. In the old days the people made such breeding "improvements" in many decades or even centuries of breeding, animal breeding was a lifetime job and was passed from the older to the younger generation. Nowadays we have totally different time frames, it is very short living and short-sighted... unfortunately it concerns also many breeds.
Oh yes, I'd be glad to see it!
Yes I know the forum, but I don't understand polish, so I only can judge about the outfit and it looks impressive. Does the forum have an english section for degu owners not familiar with the polish language? In the german deguforum we have such an english section, but it is rarely used.
I'd be glad if we could improve also the exchange of information and experience with the polish community (or parts of it, as we have it with the german community... most user don't participate).

It is unfortunate that not enough simply ludzom degus. The project will show for sure tomorrow. A lot of things I do in this program. Even the designs of houses or rooms.
I'm glad you like the Polish forum. In my opinion there are some slightly outdated information. There is no English section. I did not know many things about which I learn here. You have a very extensive information on nutrition and especially the cages.
As for the exchange of information, for its part, I will be happy as I can write some things look from the Polish side. Sam reared degus been 6 years and the beginning of my knowledge was low. Only on the basis of experience. Now, at the time the Internet is much easier.
It's hard for me to write longer posts in English, but is the only solution would be to contact you.

Yes the program is versatile. But one thing I don't understand, what do you mean with "ludzom"? I assume google translator cannot find a suitable translation. But can you describe it in other words? As I said I don't understand the contents, thus I cannot judge about this. But it is what I expected, because I saw this here too that the progress speeded up with our international exchange. Oh I can understand you really well, I had the same feeling when I started to write my first postings here. At the beginning it is really hard, but I felt that I quickly made good progress and learnt much. Great! It is much inspiration for me to participate on this international exchange. In other words, I 'm for some 7 years active member in the german degu community. Especially at the beginning I learnt much, but as time flies I had the impression that it is all the same all the days although I still have fun to share my knowledge and to get inspired from the other degu owners. But this experience here I think that it is a great benefit for us all and I'd be glad if you find the time to participate in the following weeks in our exchange. (I assume that will be my last response for today and this topic too)

But one thing I don't understand, what do you mean with "ludzom"? It was to be the "ludziom". Ludziom=people. I am very happy to mention the information. On the forum I'm going to be a very long time. Spring is coming. I want to do eating alone.
