Sorry, correct me if I'm misunderstanding you, but you're planning on inbreeding your degus on purpose?

Well, I've always been told that if animals are inbred it usually leads to health problems...

Yes, they will in all likelihood fight each other and will do it in such a way that you will have to separate them. You would also have to separate male and female becasuse otherwise she would have several litters a year which would be very bad for her health.
Which brings me to the subject at hand that will interest most of us on this forum: why would you want to deliberately inbreed???

yeah i read it and i am positive i want to breed them. i have a whole folder FILLED with packets of information and a whole shelve of degu books. i do have homes for them (neighbor wants one, kids at school constantly ask me for pets) i do have more cages. neither of them have any health issues or cataracts. so yes i am fully prepared. so now will they fight with each other or not?

Hi, welcome from my part too.
How old are the little ones now? A hard age is puberty (4-18 months approx.). Then, aggressions and fights are quite normal, even without the existence of girls in a group. Nobody can say for sure if there will be fights. There are girl groups with more than one boy which live in pure harmony. But this is not the normal case. Degus are not different to many other wild animals: males often do not accept other males in the group. Problem in the cage: it is too small to allow the escape of the loser. Degus are not very friendly and fights can be deadly.
edit: how old would these children be? And what do their parents say? I mean, we are talking about 4-8 yrs of responsability for these little animals? Degus are not suitable for children under 14 yrs. They are not animals which you can touch and play with. Degus are animals which are more suitable for observation.

mainly because i dont think inbreeding is all that bad. You think but don't know? If there is a possibility that it is bad, would you still want to go ahead?

Could you name some of these books? I didn't know that there were so many degu books available on the market.
Are these babies your first degus (yes, so young degus are still babies... and in only 2-3 weeks the little girl, if there was one, could be pregnant... far too early for her!)? I think, first of all you should learn more about them then. Degus are very complex in their behaviour, sounds, activities. It takes some time to observe them, learn, interprete etc. Please take your time to get to know them better. They really deserve it.
You said your neighbour wanted ONE. Degus are social animals and have to live in at least pairs, better groups... so ONE degu is never an option.

i would sell her two or three. yes these are my first degus. and their gestation period is 90 days so i would have time to learn and prepare. so should i separate them because either way there's going to be one alone?

Yes, they will fight for her. She will find this stressful. She will be pregnant at a very young age and she find this very difficult. Inbreeding is BAD. That is why we as humans, on the most part, do no partake in incest! I am reluctant to say much more on this subject other than what people have already said. I hope your degus are settling in well and welcome to the forum
