If you were to get another female for the lonely female, they would be young enough for you to not have any problems introducing them.

You would be best with a female of the same age An older female should accept the baby girl too though, so it's your choice really

amie finally someone polite on the forum!!!!!! Everyone who has replied to your messages have done so politely and tactfully. The thought of interbreeding degus is disturbing to most of us. Although you may not have noticed problems doing so in the past, the fact is interbreeding often causes sickly animals to be born. Most degus that have been imported to North America decades ago, have been interbred. The result was a huge strain of sickly degus who had poor health and were more prone to health problems than the degus in Europe. Although we cannot stop you from interbreeding, no one on this forum (or on any other) will encourage you to do so. Even breeding healthy and unrelated degus is discouraged. Why would you wish to breed more animals when animal shelters are filled with poor animals looking for homes ? Is this for personal curiosity ? The internet is saturated with degus up for adoption...even in places where degus are less common. If your motivation for interbreeding is to provide friends and neighbors with degu pets, why not encourage them to look up their local animal shelter or to look up for adoption adds on the internet ? If you insist on wanting to interbreed degus even after warnings from experienced owners, you will have to do so on your own and do your own research. I will not participate by providing you with information that will further your plans for breeding degus. There is simply no logic in this.

Hi, you could contact the guy u got you degus from if he's got left any female baby u could take. If u got yours recently she could still remember her sister smell or if u could exchange your girl for another brother, if u able to let her go.

I'm sorry if I offend, but there are loads of degus in shelters who will be put down because they can't find homes, why would you want to make more? If I were you, I'd leave it to the experts, because like you said, these are your first degus You also said you had them on your shoulder while you did homework? So that means your still at school right? :S Also, although you have not had any problems with inbreeding so far, it does cause problems. Maybe you haven't experienced these problems but they do happen. And you say you have found lots of good homes for them, but if there were so many good homes available, then there wouldn't be so many degus in rescue places :/ I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but I dont think you should breed them. Welcome to the forum by the way

Why don't you take your degus with you and let the people at that shelter have look on them... just to be sure about the real sex. I mean, you are new in this topic... your "breeder" sexed them wrong according to you... he should know what he is doing... It's just poor he didn't!! What kind of breeder is he?
Have you read anything about introductions of degus? It's actually nothing I would do without knowing better my degus. It's not only knowing the theory... it's especially knowing the reactions of the degus, the sounds they are making... and knowing when to react if it turns bad.

it was a pet store lady who sexed them. she didnt really look at them very closely. she just peeked under for like 2 seconds and told me there were two girls and 1 boy. all i know is two of them have large spaces between the "dots" and one doesnt have a space at all. from what ive read that is two boys and a girl. correct? ? i was planning on bringing them down anyway to see how they will react to the new friends at the shelter and see if i want to adopt them or not. and yes i have a plan if not all goes well.
