Thanks for getting back - not too late, because I thought better safe than sorry, especially after the toast and blackcurrant jam incident!

Just introduced everyone to fresh dill, and just wow. We gave them one stalk each and in two out of three cages, it was gone in seconds!! How much is it OK for them to have in one go?

Well, like any fresh green, it can cause diarrhea, so be moderate. As their bodies get used to it, they can have more. But as they get used to it, they might not eat it as enthusiastically either, so space it out with other tidbits and yummies, and they will enjoy it just as much each time.

It does have some medicinal properties so I wouldn't feed it freely right away, perhaps you could offer two stalks per cage tonight and increase again tomorrow.

Are you sure tulip petals are not safe? The local wildlife, squirrels, chipmunks, groundhogs, gophers, deer, all eat them like they are candy. The leaves, too. Nothing above ground left. they are evidently delicious.
Daffodils are poisonous. Every last bit from the tips of the roots to the tips of the flowers. Nothing eats the daffodils. At least not twice.

Well, tulips definitely contain toxins, but it's most concentrated in the bulb and least in the petals. They are known to have caused issues in humans and animals, but at the same time small animals are known to eat the leaves and flowers, so it must be down to concentration and quantity eaten. I guess you could try a very small amount if you wanted to, but bear in mind that there is a chance the local wildlife has built up some kind of tolerance.

I almost bought some watercress seeds today, I wish I had! So I'm wondering if degus can have catmint? It's related to catnip but it's in the mint family. Also when do you pick dill to give it to them? Someone sold me 15 small dill plants but I've never grown it before. Should I wait until it flowers, or just anytime? Thanks!

Catmint is okay. Dill you can give any time, I would not wait until it flowers as degus prefer fresh, young plants.

Ok I've officially become crazy rodent lady. I asked a tree surgeon what tree he was pruning and then told him its for my rodent and he looked at me like I was a few biscuits short of a packet lol.
Nevertheless, it's a lime tree and have just checked that it is Degu safe but now I'm embarrassed to go back and ask for a couple of branches LOL

Go back! You'll get used to the embarassment...well maybe not entirely, I just keep my head down when I am out collecting plants!

Yeah, go back! I raid the bin at the Bike shop for loo rolls for my gerbils (it's a bucket, and that's the only thing in there), and have nicked apple wood in the past

Ooh lucky I didn't get the lime branches, I've read that it's not safe now? Frustrating that there are conflicting advice on the net, think I'll just stick with Apple!

My Degu's also hate anything fresh, (veggies, flowers and herbs) I tried Apple leaves - fresh off the tree (just gave them a wash) and they loved them! Tried fresh strawberry leaves and they fought over them! Trying to find out if they can have fresh grape vine, if anyone knows?? I think tree leaves is their thing!

Sorry if this has been asked before, but can our crew eat strawberry leaves? Our strawberries are coming to the end of their season, so was wondering about giving some of the leaves to the furbabies.
