I have to buy enough for like 8 lots of 1200cm x 600cm which is around £40 I don’t put anything underneath as my enclosures are melamine board. I change them every 3 months. In between I hoover them out, flip them over.

I use the normal horse auboise, but mixed with either wood shavings or cardboard squares as on it's own, it's so fine they just kick it out of the glass doors. Don't ask how they do this because I really don't know.

Doubled confusion, because River actually sweeps substrate AWAY from the door opening!

I used to use coco liner, it was fantastic and lasted ages. Like Emily I just hoovered, brushed and flipped it, it lasted me months! I got mine from poundstretcher in the gardening section and on Amazon I believe. I stopped using it when trying to introduce neighbouring goos, as they completely destroyed it in their desperation to get to each other. I am tempted to start using it again to be honest now my goos are settled... Especially now I have a 6 week old baby - it would make cage cleans so much quicker! We cleaned our lot out this weekend, took 3 hours with both of us taking it in turns to tend to baby.

Me! I’ve used literally everything and always come back to cocoliner. Do you have any questions? Oh forgot to ask you. Do u put anything in so they can burie there food or would a nesting box be enough for that. I've noticed they my girls like to burie some of there food They all have a roll of toilet roll each, so they rip that up and make nests, there’s tonnes of things buried in their nest. They also do rip up and fluff up the cocoliner so they can bury within that too!

Doubled confusion, because River actually sweeps substrate AWAY from the door opening! The scaredybeans aren’t trained yet... panic-escaping (where one expects the cage door to be there to bounce off, and falls out because it isn’t...) leads to a degu flying out of the cage at high speed with at least a quarter of the bedding pushed out in front of them. and then while I’m trying to catch the bean, River is calmly sweeping away at the door...

Sorry for 2nd post.
But has anyone tried artificial grass stuff?

No . . . and I wouldn't advise it either. It would do horrible things to the guts of degu if they ingested it. AND I wouldn't put it past a degu to pull out the grass and chew it up. They are extremely curious little things, and rather inclined to try things/get into things that they really shouldn't. Like toddlers that have to give all new things a good chew and swallow . . . LOL!

Definitely no to the artificial grass! I've had to go back and remove the protective plastic on the perspex cage side because Sneakygoo and Snoozygoo like to spend their time removing it themselves!

I've been to loads of gardening places and no where is selling that coco liner stuff.
I don't really wanna buy it online incase there's a smell to it or something
