They have adverts at the bottom of most of the pages on the website. check them out as they sell degu food, I bought two huge bags of degu premium food, paid online, delivered to my door within a week! and the boys LOVE it!
so check out the advert on the main website!!
clicking on each one gives the website money to pay to run it next year as well!

That's the degu food recommended on a German degu forum I go on sometimes. They're really fussy about how they look after their degus on there, so I figured it must be pretty good stuff. It's callled 'JR' degu food isn't it?
The wire food balls on there are great too. Good for putting veggies in and good fun on their own.
There's some amazing pics of home-made degu cages on the German forum by the way. I can post a link if anyones' interested.

thats rubbish!
The food is really amazing! i wonder why they dont ship it?
If you want, I could look into how much it would cost to send a bag from me, and do it that way? Just an idea, as I have two bags, it wouldnt be hard to walk up the road and get one bag worth priced in the post office!

that's okay, as it was the cost was barely cheap enough to justify getting it, if it has to be shipped twice, once overseas, that would just make it too costly. oh well, maybe they'll start selling to the US soon.

WOW! Meg, you didn't say how GORGEOUS this stuff smells. And real dandylion heads!!
I checked out the ingredients before I bought it, as so many "degu" foods still have molasses added which is bad for them. I was so impressed with the ingredients in this food - it really does seem to mimic their natural habitat feeding.
So, I put it to the vote:- and all the degus say they love it ;D ;D

First, since I'm new here: hello all I'm thinking on buying this food, but I would like to have some opinions first on what i'm feeding my degus: Actually I'm feeding them a mix 1:3 of Degu Nature and Chinchilla Duo (both from Versele-Laga) and I take off all the dried banana and raisins (boring). Opinions? Another question, does your degus have food available all the time? Actually I'm giving them about a tablespo0n per degu/day. Water and hay always available. Sorry about the noob questions, but I've read so many and different things that I'm confused

The webiste to get the food is www.zooplus.com check it out and you wont be sorry. And yes roz, the food smells great! and the smell fills the room! My boys totally love the stuff! Hi Fresco, welcome to the site. Regarding food, I think you are doing well, especially regarding taking out the banana and raisins. They really CANT eat that! Keep the food available all the time in a large enough bowl they can sit in, they will hide it in the cage as well, but dont worry about that.

Thanks a lot for the answer Sunshinemeg. Unfortunately they don't ship to Portugal. By the way, are rose hips (fruit) safe to feed?

Meg, I don't suppose you'd be willing to buy the Zooplus food in bulk and resell it to some of us across the great pond? I'd love to get some for my crew.

yeah, if zooplus will give you a discount for ordering in bulk, that would offset the cost of reshipping it overseas.

We just bought a bag of Degu food today, its called Vitakraft (think its a german one or something) You use a small amount in supplement to other food you are feeding (we are going to mix it with some guinea pig food).
I just showed Tails the packet and he suddenly got very excited! He started running about the cage like a loon! (not that he doesnt do that anyway lol)

which vitakraft product is it? i wasn't aware they made any degu-specific products, although i know they have an extensive line of small animal treats and supplements, most of which are of course not suited for degus.

I would be happy to buy the degu food from zooplus and ship it on, as long as Im not out of pocket!!
Can someone in the states check that it would be ok to ship it in before I buy a large order??? Will work out postage cost per bag, I have one unopened, and the post office up the road, so can get them to weigh it.

Well, my German is a little rusty (but then again, it's more of a rusty nail, than a rusty girder), but...
I'm guessing it's part of their Menu range, or perhaps a Premium range... or perhaps a Premium Menu range :/
I'll put the English bits from the back below:
"Menu for degus - an energy-laden daily food made of sun-ripened cereals and packed full of different types of vegetable A varied diet, just like the degu's natural diet back home in Chile No added colourings or preservatives No added sugar Contains essential vitamins and minerals"
There are pictures of degus on the front, and the staff at the pet shop mentioned to us they stocked it when we went to buy Ziq and Tails, although we'd already stocked up on Guinea Pig (Gerty) and Rat food by then (the rat food we stopped giving them as they didn't seem to like it as much.
So, we're planning to give Tails a small bowl of each and see if he takes to the new degu food, and if so we'll give him a good mix of both, I think.

Vitakraft (it is a German brand) have had some Degu food for a few year now. They modified it recently, because their first version was anything but suitable for Degus (contained a range of fruit and sugary stuff). I am not sure what the new one is like, and whether it is available outside Germany yet, I have only seen the old one so far! To me it seemed they are selling off the old stuff abroad. When I had Vitakraft pet food before, I almost ever had bugs in in and from the people I know, nobody bothers anymore with Vitakraft because they had alive food aswell most of the time. You can get rid of insects in the food though by freezing the food for a few days before opening the packed, but some people may find it kind of ugly still... Can you let us know, what the Vitakraft food contains that you got, I would be interested in whether they finally started exporting the (hopefully) suitable version of the food. Thanks. The JR Degu food is super. Nothing processed, all suitable for degus. Definintly the best for Degus that I have ever seen. Fed it all the time when I was living over there. Drop an e-mail to Zooplus an ask if they can make an offer for shipping it to the US. They probably only don't offer it as it is not requested very often (and, I reckon, quite expensive).
