Sorry to drag up an old topic.......... but I've just started feeding a combination of the JR premium and special. Though they love it, they are leaving a LOT of the grassy bits. I've tried leaving it in the cage to 'force' them to eat it but they don't. Rosie and Mary are not that fat or big, so I then worry that I am malnourishing them and put more food in, but at the sam time I am concerned that as they are not eating all of the food they are not getting the nutrients they need from it. Besides the fact that it seems rather wasteful......
So, how have other people's degus got on with it?! Do they eat it all or do they leave any? Any thoughts? I'm considering going back to the Burgess Guinea Excel pellets when the JR's all gone, but then I don't think the degus would be impressed. Hmmmm. The basic problem is that they don't like greenstuffs - veg, hay etc. I give them a variety of these but they don't seem keen on them at all. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Am I being too soft?!

Hi Han
My boys are on the premium and special mix too. They prefer the special, but dont mind the premium. They too are leaving the grass, and I tend to make them wait a day or so before filling up again. If they are hungry they eat it! But I think it is definately the least tasty part of the mix in their eyes!!

Lol, good to know mine are the only fussy little critters!! I'm too used to having rats...they don't waste anything at all. I don't suppose there's that much nourishment in the grassy bits anyway. Maybe I worry too much...............
Thanks Meg.
