He must be feeling better if he came running! I hope it translates to him eating a bit better today.

It is possible that he's eating when you're not looking just to keep you on your toes.

Keeping me on my toes is clearly the goal here!
I did catch him eating the CC mix twice today. He also took some oats and rice puffs from me just now. He is refusing to take anything medicated though, so I've unfortunately had to syringe those. Which he fights. Which I'm sure hurts and causes me to worry about stitches and further harm. Hoping he starts warming up to food more, he's never been quite this bad about meds before.

Oh Bouncy, I am not allowed to cuddle him at all anymore! I've fallen out of favor as heating pad, haha. I really should get some manuka honey. Do I need to get one that says medical grade? And yes, he very much is a trooper Surgery tech said that for small animals, will is everything when it comes to getting through these surgeries. And that Tom clearly has a ton of it. If only he would turn that will into taking his meds, haha!

It's good to hear that the operation went well and was a necessary one! The recovery is never fun, but it sounds like Tom's doing his best

Hmmmm. John insists that it's medical grade, but the others just say it should be high quality. I had to force Spud to take his antibiotics too, but it won't be for more than a couple of weeks. Just take the guilt and evils, and you'll win him back when he's better. Deep down, he'll realise you're helping, even if he won't admit it

I'll see what I can find on the honey front! I'll probably just spring for medical grade so I don't worry too much.
Haha, yeah, I actually don't have as much guilt as I probably should! He's taking treats from me so I think I'm maybe partially forgiven (on probation?).
I've also seen him eating a lot more today. I left a bowl of liquidy CC in the cage before I went to work today--mostly gone when I came back! He's also gained 5g from yesterday, even after he took a huge wee right before I weighed him.
I kind of wonder how much his balls actually weighed. Poor babe, every time he goes to the vet he loses body parts!

Just watched Tom shove his brother when Q DARED to come near him while Tom was chewing his favorite piece of cardboard. So his attitude is fully back

Pain does terrible things to us. Just stay on top of it, and he'll be back to normal in no time!

Good to hear that he's coming back around. My experience with degus, and almost any animal in general, is that they don't tend to carry a grudge about these things. I think it's the fact that they will associate the period with getting better, even if they did not appreciate the things that were done in the moment. Degus especially are very smart, and are pretty quick to forgive something exceptional like this.
My Pulla required a long and arduous recovery process after a surgery gone wrong, and I'd have to treat his infected surgery wounds twice a day for a month straight. He'd struggle and literally scream like a stuck pig every time and started to learn the times it'd happen so he was primed and outraged even before we started, but after it was over he forgot it all very quickly and everything was back to normal.
Hopefully he'll get all of that weight back in good time! With some extra treats, he'll probably make up for his lost bits too

They're so so smart! I think bribery is hoping in this case, haha I remember reading about Pulla's recovery. I'm so glad when I read good updates on him! Fingers crossed! As long as he's happy, I'm happy!

I love Tom! He has so much sass sometimes (maybe not quite as much as dearly departed Ollie though). I've been giving his antibiotics via syringe since it seems to be the only way he'll take them currently. For the past few days the syringe has been annoying him so much that he just latches on and starts biting at the tip! Makes it much easier to administer meds Silly Tom!

Lol mine do that if I don't squeeze out the medication fast enough! It's a "come on, you're way too slow. Give it here and I'll do it myself"

He seems active and happy!
I think the stitches and wound look ok. There is a very small region right near a stitch that looks maybe slightly irritated? Thats where I had seen the blood originally. I'll try to get a better look tonight and continue watching it.
He's been eating well (including hay) and also been chewing on the wood bird toy a lot.

Ok, well, I just got home from work and he isn't looking good. Maybe I just woke him up? He seems sleepy and a bit poofed out. He didn't fight hardly at all when I picked him up to look at his sutures.

He's moving a bit more now. He sniffed at food, but hasn't taken anything. Trying to get a hold of the emergency vet, but I don't know if they'll have any exotic vets on staff.
