Ah yes I see! Thanks.
Well me and the vet decided we shall have Larry neutured fairly soon because she advised to then leave him up to 8 weeks to settle down from it before introducing females into the house?

Six weeks is sufficient. That is good plan toward an exciting new chapter in Larry's life!! Just be sure that when you do have the surgery, you have pain meds sent home with you, and critical care food, favorite treats on hand, and a heat pad of sorts that you can leave in the cage with him. Recovery is not easy the first few days after surgery.
It is also a good thing to know how many degu neuterings your vet has performed, or at least the vet that will be doing the actual surgery. Some vets that know little about degus have made the assumption that degu testes are on the outside wall of the abdominal cavity, instead of inside the abdominal cavity (which is not the case with most rodents). It is a completely different surgery, removing the testes from inside the abdominal cavity instead of from the outside. Don't be afraid to ask that they are fully aware of this. Better safe . . . .
I'm really excited by the prospect of Larry having a female friend or two!

Aw thank you, I'm looking forward to him having company but well aware this whole process means it is easier said than done.
She was incredibly honest and said she has never neutered a Degu but many many guinea pigs and also said she knows someone very familiar with it that she can either send him to or ask to assist if I want. I have a lot of faith in her and do not think she would attempt anything she wasn't confident with and the more Degu experience I can get her involved in the better for my goos going forward.
She specialises in small furries and because she has such a passion for them I have found her to be very thorough and want to look into stuff and learn more. Must be what vets like that love after day in day out of standard stuff coming through the door hehe. Her nurse also has a passion for exotics.

Ah bless him kikgoos but it will all be worth it for him. In my experience, a male and female pairing has always worked, they seem to just adore one another, for obvious reasons! I know your vet has never neutured a male but i'm sure she will take extreme care with him.

Haha he says many thanks 😁
He's on a diet at the moment, his weight got a little too high. I struggled to manage his intake with Barry because Larry ate so much quicker than him. But he is at 288g at the moment (he was over 300g eek).
Big day tomorrow. Snip snip. Xx

Yes . . . I've been thinking about it all week! May it go so very well, from drop off to six weeks down the road when he will be all clear for an introduction. I don't think 300 is too much . . . unless he seem more fluffy than muscular. Do you plan to be bringing home a female in the coming weeks? Someone you can be getting to know while Larry is healing, and Larry can be a neighbor with while he heals?

Hi Kikgoos! I'm thinking of you and Larry, and wondering how your day and his surgery has gone?

Hey DC!
He's just home, vet says it went really well and just to be extra cautious for a couple of days with him being such a live wire!
We've had a little cuddle and I'm going to get him out again soon for some antibiotics and try get him to eat. He's staying in his carry cage tonight.
I'm about to look online now to see if any rescues are available. Do you think a female of a similar age in best? I can't wait for him to have company.
Thanks for all your good thoughts for him, should I cleanse his wounds? Xx

Hi, so pleased he is though the operation, I wouldnt cleanse him tonight as he will be very tired and delicate so as long as he has warmth, perhaps a heatpad, access to water and food just leave him, if you think he looks comfortable. He may need your help and comfort tomorrow and if you are worried just post.

Thank you. He came out for a cuddle and a trot around on my ned. He's only eaten a few oats and a couple of seeds but I can tell he is worn out bless him.
I've seen someone wants to rehome two females, both 4 years old. Larry is about 3 and a half. Do you think that could work? Xx

Those ladies sound like an excellent opportunity! Yes . . . if I were you, I would inquire about them!
Did the vet give you pain relief for him as well? He is such a love!

imgur.com/gallery/KtOrAo4Is it normal for him to be limping? He wasn't last night so wonder if he has pulled it? Outside wound looks fine. He was in his carry cage till about an hour ago then he went a bit nuts climbing around and wanting to get out so I've put him in his own cage (only on the bottom level with no wheel, does have some ledges because without he climbs the bars anyway!) He is tucked up in a fleece pouch on his snuggle safe and he has has pain meds. Not seen him drink but he has eaten some oats and seeds and has passed some normal poops. I'll see how is limp is tonight when I give him his meds again. Xx

Yes it is normal, my 2 boys both had limps. Just keep checking him as your doing Kikgoos that he is healing well, no sign of infection and he's having his pain meds. Don't be surprised if you see his sides a little sunking in as they loose weight pretty quickly and he wont eat much the next 2 days or so. Any concerns just ask x
