Ok. I could just be paranoid here, but something is slightly off with Tom. He was a bit slower during play time last night, scratched his ears more than normal too. His left eye seems a bit squintier? I'm leaning towards potential ear infection, but I'm hoping I'm overreacting.
His weight is stable though, and seems to be happy eating. Which is all good.
I think with everything that's happened I've felt really nervous about more bad news. And Q had also been worrying me, since he lost weight (20g) during the last week or so before Ollie passed. Hes been stable since, but also hasn't gained it back.

Hmmm . . . I would be feeling the same way, Hpdegus, I'm sure I would! Is it Tom that has the ear drops?

Nope, its Pickett, but they gave me a full bottle of drops, more than enough for an extra goo. And its just a topical neomycin solution, so I'm tempted to start him on it. Vet wasn't sure that Pickett had an ear infection either, but was happy to let me try ear drops anyway.

I started them that night, so Tom has had about 3 full days. He'd been decent the past few nights, but again, slightly off. He's been seemingly his normal self today though! Fingers crossed that continues.
I will say he absolutely hates the war drops though. With a burning passion. Soothed only slightly by offerings of sunflower seeds, haha!

Glad they are working. Would it be a comfort if I point out how honest and straightforward degus are in expressing their feelings...unlike many people? No, didn't think so lol.

Haha, I'll praise him for his openness while attempting to medicate him! We'll see if that changes his attitude His weight has dropped a bit the past two days, but definitely within what I've seen from him before. Keeping an eye out.

Water bottles and the rescues do not get along.
I switched out their old water bottle since its been leaky for a while. Didn't do it sooner since Ollie would only drink from that one. Now apparently Tom refuses to drink from anything else. He had lost 10g as of last night (24 hours after switching it out), but he's now gained back half of that. I've put the old bottle back in since I really dont want to chance him losing weight/not gaining it back.
I wonder if it has to do with him losing his eyesight. He already had a mature cataract in the right eye and signs of one in his left, but the left had developed a lot in the past few months. I think it might be because of all the baby food he ate during Ollie's last month.

Did I ever mention that they all have completely bald tails now? Someone (Tom is my top suspect*) apparently decided that he was not satisfied by removing all the fur on his brothers tail tips. All tail fur is offensive I guess!
*both Ollie and Q were/are in possession of hairless tails. Tom seems to just be missing his towards the end, but not closer to his butt. Tom would like me to mention that all evidence is currently circumstantial and he would like to talk to his lawyer now!

I heard from the boys' lawyer - they would like it to be known they are special, not weird.

Both of mine have had bald tails for a couple of years. They are perfectly content and happy, just decided they wanted hairless tails

Yep, Silly has a beautifully bushy tail, and Spidey's is bald!

Perhaps the "groomer" wants to have the most notable and admirable fur on his tail . . . therefore the others must be bald!

Hah, I wouldn't out it past him, but he's taken all the fur off the tip of his tail too!

Hah, I wouldn't out it past him, but he's taken all the fur off the tip of his tail too! Now, innocent until proven guilty, remember? Tom will be back on to his lawyers again about a libel case if you're not careful!

Hah, I have control of the treats (at least for the moment)! Maybe that'll make him behave... or rebel faster, haha.

Got a letter yesterday from the emergency vet hospital that put Ollie to sleep. They made a donation in his honor to a non-profit that focuses on finding treatments for complicated medical problems that pets face.
I'm sure they do this for all pets, but it kind of means a lot.
