Hi! Thanks for all the info on play pens I will definitely try to make one and if my handyman skills don’t succeed I will definitely buy one 😂 I will definitely not be putting them in the ball but will use it for transportation purposes so my £10.99 doesn’t go to waste! I will keep you all posted!

I'm not labouring the point here (honest!), but playballs really aren't appropriate for degus. Apart from all of the other reasons given by the others, there isn't a single one on the market that is bíg enough to accommodate a degu without long-term damage to their spine.
OK, lecture over - Pups are exciting!!!!

Hi! I have made the play pen! When I get it out again I will post a photo, I will not be using the play ball! No pups yet!

Hi everyone! Quick update, Tookie is massive and I mean massive and over the last couple of days cha cha has constantly been squeaking at me, Is she being protective of tookie because she is far into her pregnancy or is it something else? Thanks 😀

You need to make sure that Tookie is still able to move about and is eating and drinking and pooing OK. It is possible that she could have difficulty birthing the pups and could need medical attention, so you need to look out for her trying to give birth and failing.
It is possible that Cha Cha is nervous for Tookie and being protective.

My thoughts exactly, Moletteuk! I'm going to tell you some important things to look for.
If you see any straining, like as if she is constipated, but no pups are present, or if there is any goopiness around her hind end but no pups are present, she is in great distress and urgent need to see the vet. I don't mean in a couple of hours or tomorrow, but RIGHT NOW. Keep a close eye on her love . . . I have suffered the horrible loss of a degu that couldn't deliver her pups, because I didn't know what to look for. It is a terrible thing!

How have you got on with pup proofing the cage, is it now on its side/are all the large drops reduced? Sounds like you don't have long to go.

Make sure that food and water are on the same level as Tookie and easily accessible for her, as being so large means that any walking at all is taking great effort. Sounds like pups are due any time now.

Thanks everyone for all the info, I have pup proofed the cage and I will move the water to one level, I will look out for all the signs and if I hear any squeaking during the night or in the day I will check as I don’t want any losses. Tookie recently has been looking really tired and I understand it will be hard work for her.
I am starting to worry a little though as I’m sure Cha Cha has got slightly bigger! It may be my eyes or that when she was new she didn’t eat so much because she was nervous but now she is and is just normal? Tomorrow I will post up a few photos if necessary.
Thanks again! 😀

Great that you gave got things organised what are their weights looking like? That will be the sure way to find out if she is gaining weight.

I have tried weighing them before but my scales are annoying and turn of after 30 seconds and that’s not enough time for them to explore then get on the scales so I will have to invest in some new ones! Cha Cha is getting on well with the training and is eating from my hand through the bars but will not come near me with anything new because she thinks I’m going to catch her because at PAH they moved them around a lot and I don’t think they did it well and patiently so I will have to keep trying and take some photos weekly. Tookie on the other hand will walk along my arms etc so will easily get in the scales so I will weigh her tomorrow! 😀

If you put oats on the scales they will stay still to eat them. just be aware with cha cha, you said she was squeaking at you and quite defensive of Tookie: degus will puff themselves up to make themselves look bigger when they are stressed out or feel threatened - so this may be why she is looking bigger than usual.

Make sure you get the tail on,too.
Mine only turn off if the weight hasn't fluctuated for 30 seconds, so I just tap my finger on it until they arrive. I then get something they love and hold it above so they're almost pirouetting on top.

Still trying to weigh them! Will try again later, Here is an updated pic of tookie, she has definitely got a lot bigger! I had to zoom in though as she is scared of the phone, hopefully you can make out what the photo is actually of! She now sits on my hand and falls asleep. She is asleep 2/3 of the day! Within this last week she has got a lot bigger! Is this normal for a pregnant goo? drive.google.com/open?id=1X3eZhzCUyaTTuSDxcvflEO5bvHnRTqzxAbove is a photo of tookie this morning, half asleep! Thanks 😀
