They were expensive tho! The large branch was £22 and the smaller one was £9. Worth it since they climb all over them Thanks!! I might have to give it a look.. do you have a link?

I've got a huge bamboo from p@h. For cheaper, have a look in the reptile section in The Range. A large piece of Mopani is £18.99

If I can source large Apple/Cherry wood branches I'll add them to my store.

I like that idea, Jack, but like you say . . . only if you can source them. It isn't easy to find mature apple or cherry trees that have reached the end of their life and are due to be removed. I'm a tree lover. I mourn when I see trees being removed. LOL!
Going to add that I also mourn when I see a green space dug up and paved over, or lost to some giant building or complex. HATE seeing nature ravaged like we do so blithely.

UPDATEI have brainstormed many ideas in the past 1-2 weeks and I think I'm happy with this: Attachment DeletedThe idea is to replace the half length levels with full length levels and to section half of the bottom level into a deep burrowing section in an acrylic tank (It'll be full height so no goos can chew any part of it). I may have the tnak on the left side instead tho I'm not 100% sure.

What will you keep in the digging tank?

What will you keep in the digging tank? It'll be connected to the cage via a tube (on the inside). I'm thinking of putting 6-7 inches of coco soil in the digging box with some terracotta plant pots.

I'm sure I'm being paranoid . . . but because degus have difficulties with dust . . . and because this coco soil looks fine in texture, and soft and almost sandy . . . is there any danger that they could suffocate in a depth of 6-7 inches of the coco soil?
Putting this question out to the forum at large. I have no experience with this stuff, and the look of it is all I have to go on.
Jack . . . in a slightly different direction, you've been using this like a substrate in your cage, is that correct? If so, can you tell us how it manages odors, urine, and how your degus seem to like it?

When I used it with my first hamster (Comet) it wasn't very dusty and it was very much like sand so when a goos dig in it they'll only move it rather then actually dig it (like they do in a sand bath).

Also, to improve ventilation I may make the "tank" out of wood (as it's easier to work with) and make the side that the goos use to get in shorter in heightso I can just use a wooden ladder instead of PVC piping.
