They certainly are cute though I may be a little biased! I'm slightly worried that they aren't eating much of their nuggets, they eat their natural mix no problem but only seem to occasionally pick at the all in one nuggets. In guessing it's because they prefer the natural mixtures and if they are eating the nuggets somewhat then I shouldn't worry?

I just try and give them as much variation as I can, whether that's through dried pre bought mixes or things I've foraged myself, I'm very lucky that I can find a huge range of items to forage that they can have.

Great! No wonder they aren't too fussed about their nuggets! As long as they eat some nuggets and are getting enough calcium then they should be OK, the only thing the nuggets contain that they don't get elsewhere is vitamin D. If you are concerned about this you could think about getting a UV lamp or artificially supplementing a small dose of vitamin D. deguworld.proboards.com/thread/19147/interesting-page-on-providing-light

I actually went out and got a small uv lamp today for them, hoping to set it up tomorrow. I'm very happy that everything they get is good for them They do eat a few nuggets but was just worrying they weren't getting everything they needed.

Let us know how you get on with the UV lamp because that is still quite a new thing for degus.

I will do, need to find somewhere to plug it in where the little buggers can't reach it, hoping to have it set up today or tomorrow so will post how they like it.

Day 1 of the goos having a UV light on, they both seem to be spending a lot more time as high up in their cage as they can, especially Nero, Dante not so much but still he has more than normal. So far I would say they seem to be enjoying it.

What kind did you get?

It's a 6% Arcadia D3, uvb strip tube. Decided to go for a 6% one from my experience with reptiles and knowing that in general animals who are diurnal and get the majority of not all of their food from vegetation rely nearly completely on the sun for all of their D3 needs. Whereas animals in which the majority of their diet consists of other animals and insects etc can gain most of their D3 need from their food.
