^now thats a sterling idea!
I have a feeling that this cage will never be done!, once the goo's are in and I can see areas that require attention I can adjust it as and when needed.

You could try a shelf with ordinary edging and see how you like it, although DCs hinge idea shouldn't be too hard to do.

Done a tiny bit more over the last two nights. weathers been too miserable to use the power tools outside so just waiting for a break in the weather to do the edging. meanwhile the glass runners have arrived too. Not heard anything from the glass supplier so I'll chase them up today.

I'm getting so excited to see the finished product, Krazypara! It is looking so good! Good thing the degus don't have any idea of what is going on, or you'ld have a full on riot on your hands. LOL!

I'm getting excited too! I've ran out of screws and I have ten photos to edit for a photography competition so probably won't get much done tonight.
But I do have another tip.
screws, - big, small, short, long, brass, steel...... hooks, 10mm bars and butterfly nuts ect..... go to Wilkinsons. For £2 you can fill a small bag with whatever fittings you need! rather handy when you need a mixture of just about everything!

Glass is ready to collect! so I'll swing by on the way home from work tomorrow. that will hopefully give me a boot up the rear end to get most of it done tonight.
Next week will be spent 'tricking out the interior' fitting wheels, water bottles, additional shelving and nest boxes.

I got a fair chunk done last night! Finished off the edging in the lower half, put the ramps in, put the glass runners in and fitted the glass! A few pics of the beta testing...... Lessons learnt..... If you have straight cut glass (without polished edges) wear gloves! i have loads of little slits in my fingers and whilst they do not bleed they really really stung! When it comes to installing glass fit and fix the bottom runners then place your glass into them and pop the top runners on the glass before levelling the glass and pushing it into position. You can then slide the glass to one side and then to the other to fix the top runner. I fixed the top first and had a nightmare holding the bottom runner to the glass and trying to push it all into position. It still amazes me how much there is left to do! cut out and cover vent holes drill holes for smaller leap shelves drill holes for wheel and water bottle fit more edging strip around front sort out wiring for lights cut and fix ramps for upstairs make a surround for the mesh roof There's probably other things I have not yet thought of but I'll cross that when I get to it. EDIT: there was more! I also need to build a brace bar on the bottom to attach wheels!

That's looking so good! You have some very lucky goo's How long are the connecting wires for the lights? I'm still trying to find suitable ones for my cage but my lights are about 35cm apart..

Around 6 inches.....
Its only 12v lights but I want to install another on the top floor so I'm just going to wire them to some cable that I have lying around.

It's really coming together now! How was the beta testing, looks like it was pretty thorough? If the side edges of the glass are still sharp, I imagine you could smooth them off with some wet and dry paper.

Is "wet and dry" paper the same as what we call sand paper?
I think it looks amazing, and I love that the googles were giving it a test. They look pretty intrigued. AND it looks to HUGE! Well done so far!

Haha it took them a while to figure out how to use the ramps but they seemed to enjoy it! wet and dry paper is a special type of sand paper thats usually a finer grit that can be used wet

Well its pretty much done!!!! I've kind of gone overboard on the aluminum trim as I had loads spare most of its for asthetics at this point! the pop hole The lighting. during testing I realised the degus could probably get at the wires if they tried so they are now covered by a metal plate (not pictured) The lower bit s62.photobucket.com/user/krazycunt/media/20151013_204832_zpsvsgymydg.jpg.htmlUpper section during testing Charlie loving the swing shelf! just got the wheels and the brace to put on the bottom then I can tidy up and start clearing the spare room!!

I'm loving the new home, as I'm sure the girls are too!
Just wondering, if you have some spare edging, whether you'd want to put any on the sides of the ramps? My destructodudes would probably need a new set every couple of weeks without it :/

My destructodudes would probably need a new set every couple of weeks without it :/ The ramps are designed to be easily replaced, I have spare cuts of 30" timber. All I need to do is unhook the ramp that requires replacing and screw in hooks to the new wood. It probably takes a minute or two to do
