I'm finding more and more things that are better on V5, which is a relief. The search seems to work - has anyone else tried it much? I love the like button, PM messages now appear as conversations, not just individual messages, which is great, I'm loving the 'new threads' thing as it goes further back in time, and they stay there after you've looked at them, which is handy if you don't have chance to reply when you first read something. I'm sure there was some other stuff too, oh I think there are more smilies, and did I mention the search works, hallelujah!!!!!

Does proboards provide the possibility to jump directly to the last post? I mean some kind of buttom on the very first page next to the name of the last author. As far as I can see it now there is only the chance to enter a thread at the first page which is not handy when there are several pages and you have to go to the last one and then scroll down. It wears down the mouse so quickly .

I'll look into it. I wouldn't want unnecessary cruelty to mice

LOL! Moletteuk you are doing such GREAT work here! I've got to say I'm kind of falling into the same state of confusion as Dusty (is it fair to say you find it rather confusing, Dusty?) when I look into all the admin options. Mind you, "lady" cycles loom in the very near future and I find that visitation always starts robbing me of cognitive sharpness well in advance of it's arrival sometimes. It would appear that this is going to be one. Hormones, can't live with them, can't live without them.

Maybe I shouldn't have jumped straight into the intermediate section of the themes then molette I kept changing things to a bright out of place colour in the hope the preview would show it up but some of them I still can't figure out what they do! The skin is starting to look better, slowly but surely!

I wasn't really convinced the preview always works, I was doing a save and then refreshing in a second tab/window showing the home page/ thread page (whatever) so I would know for sure. Let me know if you want a hand figuring any of the names out. One of the Proboards staff was saying he always starts a theme using the easy creator and then works up, so it must be OK

Maravilla I've added a 'to bottom' button next to the reply button at the top right of each open thread. I've only done it for the mneut1 theme so far if you'd like to have a look and tell me whether that was what you had in mind?

Weird - I've just seen that using @ and a name in mneut2 creates a hyperlink to the person's profile!
Dusty - is that what you meant when you said the @ wasn't showing?
Has anyone else noticed this with any other skin?

No chance to type the "@", I am using the mneut1.
Going to send you a PM, Kirsten.

Maravilla, if you have Google Chrome as a browser it does spell check for you, I'm sure the others would have a manual option? Well, I use firefox and did not find it so far. But this is not the worst thing. Normally the spell checker only marked the word "degu" as wrong ... and all the words which are written differently in American English. What I am really, really missing is the preview-buttom. It is so useful to check the text, the links and pictures before posting. Would be great to have this back!! You can install a dictionary for Firefox (they are available as add-on). I use this for few years and it works very well, so I never missed the spell check button nor used it. You even can install several dictionaries (e.g. I use French, German and British English) and choose the language you want to check. Is it active in the textfield? You can check this easily by right clicking on the textfield, then in the German version of Firefox, there is an item called "Rechtschreibung prüfen". Make sure that you have checked this. There is also another item called "Sprachen" where you can choose between the different installed dictionaries.

Do you mean nothing appears on screen when you try to type the @ key??

OK, so I asked Proboards Support about the different ways you can click through to a thread and which take you to the start of the thread and which to the last post. Also asked about @. Here's the reply, let me know if you still have queries:
From Threads: Clicking anywhere in the Subject column of a thread will take you to the beginning of a thread. Clicking on the new icon (if present) next to the thread title will take you to the post that follows the last post you've read in that thread, e.g., the first post you have not read yet.
From Boards: Clicking in the Board column from the homepage will take you to the list of threads, whilc clicking the name of the Last Post in the Last Post column will take you into that thread.
@ tagging: The @ tagging is a new v5 feature that allows you to easily bring a member's attention to your post. If you place it before a member's username, it will be replaced dynamically with a link to their profile, as well as triggering a notification to that user when you first create it. This is very similar to Twitter's system, if you're familiar with that.
Edit: To easily @ tag a member, you can alt+click their name in their miniprofile and it will copy and paste their @ tag into your reply.

Thanks, David. At least it seems to work now for the English version. The "check spelling" was activated but not the dictionary.
Exactly. This is very strange indeed. But using the "insert user link" button fulfils the same purpose. So it is okay.

moletteuk - fascinating, this @ thing. Think I'm finding it easier now, and yes it is taking me to the last post now instead of all that scrolling around

The forum is not letting me add an attachment to a post, it is under the size limits, but I keep getting a message saying "the forum has exceeded their space limits"

I think we've got quite a problem here. It seems that they had relaxed the forum storage allowance in V4 and now that we are on V5 it is all very strict and we have exceeded our forum storage. So basically we can't have any more attachments unless we clear out old attachments or pay for more storage.
In the meantime, we will all need to use photo hosting to post all photos.
I'll have to look into this further.

How is the forum funded? Is there anywhere contributions to the hosting can be made. The forum has been essential to me and has in effect saved me buying a couple of books, so I would be willing to contribute. I know from running my own site that costs are involved and therefore it would be reasonable for me to contribute.

Thank you for the kind offer, Saddlers. The way it works is Proboards provide the basic forum hosting for free and we accept the adverts that they place on the board. There are various options to pay for things to get a better service, like more storage space for various things and going ad-free. I just checked the cost of attachment storage space and it gets expensive very quickly, so we get 200Mb free, but to upgrade to eg 2000Mb costs $14.40 per month(there are lots of options), but I can't see us being able to sustain costs anywhere near that. I need to wait for DC to see how much space we are currently using to see what the target might be.

Maybe we should ask everyone to use image sharers instead and sticky the tutorial Lrak made at the top of every board? Paying a monthly fee probably isn't very feasible.
