I find the feed the most expensive cost, £100+ a month. But you do have five and they are all spoiled rotten, lol.

Actually, doing a very quick calculation, I'm not that far behind you and I only have two. I guess I spent close on £70 last month and that's not counting bedding and toys.

Yeah, if you actually work it out you spend more than you think! ❤☺️
Not that that's a good thing.

I probably spend about £15 a month for 2 for food and substrate, but I am able to hand collect quite a lot of forage. If you find you are spending loads on forage, it's probably worth doing fewer & bigger orders from Hansemann's, their prices per kg are way lower than most other places.

Hello! I'm Ainhoa (from Spain, so sorry in advance for my English sometimes) and I recently adopted 2 male degús. I found this forum very interesting so here I am, enjoying it! I was told that my two degús were 3 months old, but I don't really know it that's true or not. I call them Jack & Gus (just as Cinderella's mice, I know, not quite original but I used to love those little troublemakers ) I will post some pictures soon so you can tell me what you think about my new babies. Btw, you have to know that both of them lost part of their tails (that's why they were given in adoption) but they are completely healed now.

Hola! Throw all previous assumptions about animals out of the window now - degus are a law unto themselves! If you have any questions, no matter how silly they seem, just ask

Hello!!!
It will be great getting to know you and your fur babies! Perhaps make a separate thread when you're ready with some background info, so we can help and advise, and any questions you have! xo

Welcome to the forum.
Your English sounds fine to me so please don't worry about that. The first thing to check is that they are both males. If you are in anyway unsure, we will be able to assist if you post some pictures on the forum, we are more than used to looking at degu 'parts' and are not easily shocked.
As has been said before, there are no silly questions when it comes to degus and we will happily help in any way we can.

Welcome to the forum. I love their name, Gus was always my favourite on Cinderella!

Hello again! I took some pictures of them yesterday, but forgot to post them! I can't take pictures of their "private parts" yet as they do not trust me enough to pick them up and so on. Here you have a picture of the two of them. Jack is the one in the front (a little blurry) and Gus is the one that stays at the back. I have one question for you: I've read that one of the degus in the familia is usually the "alpha" or the one who rules... Is that true? Because I have already noticed that Jack is much "curious and brave" than Gus. Let me explain this: Gus won't come to my hand or explore a new toy if Jack doesn't do it before. And the same happens with food. Jack is always the first going to their trough and eating, and if Gus tries to have any food before Jack leaves they "fight". To me it seems that Jack attacks Gus and tries to kick him out of the food. Oh, and another question for you. I've also realized that Jack often seems to have his cheeks quite fatty, even having his eyes slanted. I'm not sure if he has some health problems or is just a fat boy gathering food in his cheeks!! Do degus make like hamsters? Do they keep food in their mouths? Thank you for everything! I will try next time to open a new thread so I do not annoy you in this one! :*

They don't gather food in their cheeks, squinting eyes and a puffy face may indicate teething problems like overgrown roots. Is there any other signs you've noticed? They're both very cute. Can I ask what size your wheel is and what cage you have? both look very different to what we have seen before. Yes there's usually a dominant one and a submissive one in a pair. The dominant one will eat first etc.
