Is your order from Ratrations or from Hansmanns? I think whomever you got it from, you should phone the customer service area and tell them about the open bag.

I don't think I'd worry about it. It all looks great . . . though the raspberry leaves look rather crumbled from what I can see. Anyway . . . I think your girls will be delighted with it all!

Well, having never seen dried dandelion roots in a bag, I have nothing to compare them to, other than the roots I've pulled out myself. NONE of them have ever been that big . . . no . . . scratch that . . . there was one that looked like it was aiming to grow right through to China and it was thick as my littlest finger. SO those look . . . good? Maybe get the opinions of some other members that also give their degus dandelion root. The colour of those looks differently than I would have expected, but I really have no experience to say if that is what they should look like or not.

I've looked again . . . I still think the roots look OK.

the roots look fine, just all broken up. The ones I buy from Hansemanns have all kinds of sizes - mainly medium, but quite a few massive ones & some like this. The ones from PAH tend to be thinner & softer & mainly medium size, probably not as good for dental wear. You could use these smaller ones as treats for training as they're small. I'm pretty cautious with roots, more a treat than forage, as they're starchy. I usually only give 1 or 2 a month for the degus. With these tiny ones I'd probably feel happy giving them a couple a week.

P.S I'd take photos of the open bag & email them, they'll probably refund/replace/give you a voucher I'd probably still use them if they look fine too! I'd open the bag onto a white sheet, check for bugs, mould or rat/mouse poop. If the bag looks like it's just split or been damaged in transit, it'll be fine. If it's been gnawed, I'd avoid.

Hey just a little tip for next time as i use rat rations. If you go for the Hugo raspberry leaves they are much bigger and their dandelion root too. I find rat rations stuff is chopped pretty small which is fine of your girls like small stuff my boys prefers bit leaves. Probably because they can run off and hide stuff. Little weirdos lol All that looks very yummy though hope the girls know how lucky they are to have such a caring degu mumma

NO CLUE . . . but I don't know German. Hopefully Bouncy (whose skill with German I admire!) will be able to help you with it some time in the next day.

The top two are probably OK because one is a general mix and the other a flower mix and they say for all animals. Bottom left I wouldn't advise because it is potato pieces and I can't see the full name on the bottom right so I don't know what that is without a better picture or you telling us what it says.

Hi, I’m new. I have a chinchilla that doesn’t really like pellets or hay. I was wondering if the branches from the following plants/trees are safe for chinchillas?
Lilac branches/stem Rose bushes... climbing and bush, the deadwood with thorns cut off Oak branches BlackBerry (wild) branches Fir tree branches UK varieties Bamboo canes and leaves Elderflower tree
I have all the above in my garden and I’m getting rid so if I can use some of it it’d be great.
Thank you in advance

My experience is from degus and people say chins can be more sensitive especially to new things, so I would very much encourage you to experiment very slowly and carefully.
Lilac does not seem like a beginner friendly plant. I'm going to copy and paste directly from degupedia: "The lilac is slightly poisonous and is probably therefore not listed in many poisonous plant books. However, its flowers are also considered non-toxic for human consumption and there are experiences with chinchillas and degus . The leaves are considered problematic and are partially eaten by chinchillas. The wood, on the other hand, seems to be harmless and is used in Degu circles. The weak poisonous effect of lilac is due to the active ingredients syringopicrin and the glycoside syringin, which can lead to circulatory problems and diarrhea (source: Clinitox.ch: Lilac )."
Rose is quite likely to have had chemicals sprayed on it that would make it unsafe.
Oak is safe for degus in small amounts but is high in tannins so may not be safe and wouldn't be safe for a person and chin new to forage.
Blackberry is safe as long as they handle the barbs OK.
Fir trees would not be safe fresh. (Conifer would is safe for construction after it has been kiln dried to drive off the volatiles)
Bamboo is safe.
Elder is not safe.
