Hi, I want to know what you think about this meal for degus. It is only sold to them in my area. I also give them unlimited hay and alfalfa. Also some shamrock and plantain leaves. I give them a couple of pieces of vegetables a week and a nut or some dry bread once a month. What you think about their diet? I read that you recommend weighed regularly. what is the ideal weight for adults? and now they have about two months?

It's not bad for a commercial food. I would refer you to our feeding guides but I'm not sure how a computer translator would cope? deguworld.proboards.com/thread/16425/degu-feeding-guidedeguworld.proboards.com/thread/17365/commercial-food-chartdeguworld.proboards.com/thread/15602/vegetable-seed-nut-nutrition-chartsBasically, you should feed as much forage as you can, safe weed type plants, some safe garden plants and herbs, tree leaves, flowers, grasses and so on. You can use some oil seeds, including high calcium oil seeds as a supplement. There is no benefit to the bread, all grains should be limited. Degu weights vary so much there isn't really an ideal weight, they can be anything from 170 to 350g. The weighing just allows you to observe that they are steadily growing and then once they are adult unexplained weight loss can give you the first indication that there is a health problem, it's about tracking the pattern for your individual degus.

Thanks you very much!! I'm going to make a diary to take note about the evolution of their weight to control them!

Quick question. I've seen oats suggested for poorly goos I picked some porridge oats up from the supermarket they literally contain rolled oat flakes that's it are these the ones safe for them and is this more of a treat than a feed? Before I go poisoning my boys and making them fatt...er (oops)

Another quick question. I know you can feed herbs but I can't see a list.
Are all kitchen herbs safe. Rosemary thyme basil chives parsley plus any I can't think of right now.
I feed basil regularly and parsley but wasn't sure about others so would rather check. I'm like 80% certain it's all fine?

I can't think of any that aren't safe. Most are for moderate use rather than unlimited because of the active compounds they contain.
