It never rains it pours - 4th goo to visit vets on tuesday. Bangers has i think and i use the word think a bite that has got infected. He had a lump on his back which i felt and felt like a bit with a scab - today i picked him up and i thought "blimey you smell someone being weeing over you again" - only to realise it was puss coming out of the lump. The smell well i'll leave that to your imagination. I have bathed his lump and gently squeezed as much gunk out and have booked appointment for Tuesday as its flaming Easter - he looks like quazimodo or a camel and a bit subdued. I am praying its just an infected bite and nothing more poor little bugger he is looking very sorry for himself. Will keep bathing his lump till Tuesday when my partner will take him to the vets as I've got early turn 7am and no chance of getting out of that shift at work - soooo considerate my work not Will keep you updated

Hi there, just wondering what vet you use and if they're any good? I live in Norwich and I'm still looking for a good vet (hope I never need to take my monsters though!)
Hope your goo is okay!

Poor Bangers! He must be feeling pretty hacked off with life at the moment. You have probably bathed it with saline solution, 1 part boiled water to 2 parts strong, cooking salt. I would do this 3 times per day and ideally use a small syringe to flush it out if you at all can. I don't suppose that you have any Antibiotic left over (Baytril) from a previous illness, have you? There is obviously infection because you can smell it. I would doubt that it is anything else but keep a close eye on it as you already are, any redness, swelling or spread to other areas close by the infection site will need to be seen as quickly as possible. Good luck little man

Hi Guys thank you Bangers says thank you - bless him - no more puss and yes he loves the baths - NOT - but partner is all geared up for Vet visit tomorrow - should be interesting !!!!!!! Cherrysparkey Yeahhhhhhh another owner in Norwich thank goodness We use All Creatures Healthcare Brackenwood Sandy Lane Horsford NR10 3FB - 01603 898984. Basically the only Vets in Norwich area that had ever heard of a Degu and our vet has removed Mash's eye when i stood on him - when he was a pup didn't know how fast they could move - saved him bless her and he is now lumbering about fat - going on diet but blissfully happy. They have put 2 of my goo's out with general and they have both come around because this can be risky especially on boys ! the weaker sex hee hee. If you go past the airport take turning off for Horsford - go through Horsford passed shops on left as you are just leaving Horsford you see wooded area on left and a sign for the vets. They are very friendly and very good. Plug over

Lol, I did look at that one! I'm so glad someone else has used them for their goos! I did take Mo Mo to p@h vets (when I first got him he had some weird scabs on his back) but I definitely don't want to take them back there lol.
Totoro is always trying to injure himself (normally by throwing himself off things) so I'm sure we'll have to take a trip at some point. I'm sure they think they're invincible!
Hope Bangers gets better soon!

Poor little Bangers! It's a good, good thing that you were well aware of and caring for the "wound" on his back. I'm sure you've prevented it from progressing into something quite a bit worse than it is. I will be thinking of you all and looking for news of him. I hope it all goes very well, hon!

Oh the poor little Bangers!! He just looks sore and naked and not himself!! I just feel awful for him. He looks . . . cold . . . want to wrap him up in a blanket and cuddle him up. Would he like a snugglesafe to rest on? OUCH! He looks poorly there. The operation was a success I hope??

Morning Guys Thanks for all your good wishes - Strangely enough put loads of soft things in the cage for him to sleep in - and ended up with Mash in the hay and tissues at the bottom You just cant win the cage is lovely and warm he sits where he is as he gets the heat from below and above so cooking on both sides He came out this morning to say hello always a ray of sunshine is Bangers and said hello which is good and he is eating - the surgery the Vet thinks has done the job didnt realise how big the cyst was the stitches are about 3 inchs long and no hair OMG they almost took it all off - would love to knit him a jumper Mash is there for support the vet said solitary but Bangers doesnt like being on his own and Mash is such a gentle giant and has been in similar position thought it would stop Bangers getting depressed. Now have the lovely job of giving him anti biotics and pain killers via the syringe in the mouth - now thats an art i have yet to master any tips ? he is such a good boy but there must be an easier way other than holding him virtually on his back to get him to swollow poor little bugger but it will help and its only for a few days Hate seeing the boys in different parts of the cage - the other 3 are wandering around as if to say - im sure we were 5 where are the other 2 - but they can see and sniff each other via a meshed hole that seperates the levels . Kids enough to make me grey

LOL!! YUP!!! Kids = grey alright. I'm so glad he is showing his normal self today. I have no advice for giving meds however. I've not done it yet and have no ideas for you either. Sorry! Although, some have said that putting it onto a piece of melba toast and letting it soak in before giving it to the patient is very effective. Perhaps that is worth a try?

I found you can slice a brazil nut into thin slices, and then put the meds on the slice. Hopefully the nut is tasty enough to them for them not to mind you soiled it with gunk - just watch out for them wiping the meds off.

Thanks DC it has to be said its one of those acquired knacks that i appear to be developing late in life ! how late is yet to be seen So will get some Melba toast (sounds posh to me and give it a go. Richard would definitely appreciate not having to get out of bed at 05.45 to hold him whilst i wrestle with Bangers firm closed lips - thinking of changing his name to Clam Face ;D He would be a natural in a game of poker ! But he is looking a lot better this evening and has been out for a run in the hallway with Mash who thinks he must have done something wrong as he is in isolation bless him - but its all helping with his Goo Weight Watchers !!!! Cant get to any snacks or go for the late night stuffing of goo face option hee hee which may make him into an Adonis over the coming weeks - well i have a good imagination and if your mother doesn't have the right to think your gorgeous who does ;D
