Well, if there is an element of exploitation of pet owners, rather than just everything being expensive, then maybe this allows some scope to come up with ideas to source things in different ways, like looking at buying hay from farm sources, or aimed at horses etc, or if there are such great differences in price between countries maybe there is scope to import things? The hay you normally buy in the pet shops are normally dried artificial so it more expensive but the quality should be better, the quality you buy in huge bales directly from the farmers can be variate a lot, if the hay is dried in nature when the farmer has bad luck and it rains before it's harvested the quality of the hay gets less and less. But i do know the earn a lot of money on hay harvested for pets, the prices is about 300% higher If i buy deworming pills for my cats i pay 1000% more then i would pay as a commercial agriculturist.

It is different here. I think there is an awareness that people take care with usage of herbicide and insecticides etc. Especially Universities often knows about species diversity issues in urban regions and I have the impression, that they therefore allow some wildness. But if such products are used can also checked with the view to the environment, how diverse are the plants, can they grow wild and without human controll (clipping etc.) or is it a clean Englisch lawn? Then the effect of herbicide and insecticide often is not the same. Insecticide often also can affect mammals and other vertebrate species, in contrast herbicide often works different and seems not to affect the vertebrate fauna, as long as it is not something really radical like "Roundup": en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roundup_%28herbicide%29

OK!!! Thank you, Davx, that is very helpful to know!! I'm going to have to go through this thread and start gleaning out all the precious little bits that can be worked into a sheet of very helpful information. I need to just make sure I don't lose track of this thread between now and then, which I doubt will happen as it is a very current and happening topic. Or . . . group of topics. I really LIKE picking your brain, Davx!! ;D ;D You are so good at making your replies easy to assimilate into my brain.
