I was wondering what the best way to keep Goo's warm for winter was. They get fresh bedding (they're like strips of toilet paper) everyweek and I often tear up some toilet roll for them to make their own nest. The room they're in have a radiator and doesn't get too cold, but if they have the same bedding they have now I think they will. (I get cold in my duvet!). I saw some Hamster Wool bedding (you can get blue/pink or white) in The Range and wondered in this would be suitable? I was always thinking of cutting up some blanket (most likely a new dog one or something) and using that. Feel free to point me in the direction of something better!

Our goos love the snugglesafe microwaveable heat pad from pets at home. They're all cuddled up on it at the moment!

I saw that heat pad today when I picked up some more food, I was thinking of getting one. It was around £16 or so, pretty cheap. I heard they were good. It was round too, which would fit perfectly in their nest they have right now.

Amie, that's the exact one I saw today! I'm going to another Range store on thursday so i'll see if I can pick one up. If they love it so much, I may have to invest in two (They like to hog things for themselves!)

LOL! I think they're quite big, so the two would probably fit on it

Completely stay away from the hamster wool bedding, degus like to chew it and it is often fatal once it has been ingested, as it can tangle in the gut, or cause an obstruction. The wool also has a long and well established history of becoming tangled around the limbs, neck, or abdomin of the animal using it. It begins to twist tighter and tighter, eventually choking the limb and causing it to die or self amputate, or if around the neck or abdomin the slow and agonizing death of the animal.

Thanks for the info. I was sold some of this when I got my boys. I haven't used it yet. I've been using a paper tissue bedding mixed with hay to hold the shape they make it into

i hate that wool bedding for hamsters! The amount of times i;ve seen people, in our local pet shop, buying it, drives me mad I normally have a word and explain why it dangerous, and everyone i;ve spoken too puts it back and get either paper or shedded dish cloth. I keep waiting to get banned from my local P@H, but don't really care

i don't think its safe for any animals, as they can all eat it, and get themselves tied up in it x

you can get shreddied paper/dish cloths from most pet shops. They are safe because even if an animals ingests some, they won't wrap around their intestines

Totally OK for him (toilet roll that is). I've heard some people make a nest for their little furries by cutting up old socks (that you wouldn't wear anymore) into strips, and that those work very well for making a nice warm nest.

sorry nuttz, didn't realise you aren't in the uk.
But as deguconvert has said toilet roll is great. I attach half a roll, to the inside of their cage, with curtain wire, with the plastic taken off, then let them make their own bed. It is very funny to watch xx

my husband thought i was mad the first time i gave my boys loo roll. But it was really funny to watch. Dave, was trying to take it up a tube to his snuggle hut, but declan had other ideas and wanted it down stairs, so poor dave would take it upstairs, then rip some off, and whilst he was arranging it, in his snuggle, declan was pulling it back down the tube! This went on for some time, but by the next morning, dave had won, and all the loo roll was inside their snuggle hut with the 3 goo;s
