Garfs new cage accessories He seems to really enjoy the tunnel and the new igloo at the the top but he hasn't taken to his new hammock yet.. he's in a bit of a strop as I replaced his old one so he's taking his nap on his pretend degu pile (which has the snugglepad inside) instead of all the new stuff grr lol. Going to try find some chicken wire today to make the storage part underneath a new level. Any idea where to get chicken wire ??

Places like B&M usually do rolls of mesh for reasonable cost

Bexi87 thanks! randomname there's the tunnel sock thing at the front. When it's slumped he just jumps onto and doesn't get into the tunnel so I made it taught and he runs through it now, peeking out of the top hole lol

Looks fantastic - I wanna live in there! Lots of ideas for me to steal... Do we all have a thousand tupperware dishes under our cages?

Meant to ask garfunkel85, I see you have the digging box (usually sold for hamsters) there - have you modified it for Garf? I have one left over from the gerbil - I think my degu can fit in the top, but he wouldn't be able to get out the bottom. Am wanting to make a digging box, but i have no clue where to start, can I modify this?

randomname Yeah when it arrived is was much too small at the bottom so I removed the bottom tray and one side of the acrylic sides and had it in the corner of his cage at one point with loads of hemp bedding which he just used to bury his peanuts lol. Now it's just a toy/platform really that he jumps on and likes to chew. I've also been thinking about a digging box but whenever there's a lot of hey or bedding, I notice that Garf never burrows inside of it and always has his head popped out when he's in a hammock so I think he wouldn't like being submerged in something, I don't know he just doesn't seem like a digger/burrower. I would still consider trying one out though.. I like this one!

randomname I just read that you wish to modify it for your gerbil! Yeah when the tray is removed big Garf can fit through the bottom so if I were you I'd take the wooden bit off the front of the tray and just have the base holding in all the substrate then he'd fit through if Garf does. But if he still doesn't then just get a junior hacksaw or sand away at the opening to make it larger

Well he went on a 24hour strike over the replacement new hammock and i was about to give in and put the old red one back.. (which doesn't match the natural vibe I've got going on) but then, I see this! Jesus how comfortable does he look! Do these come in human sizes???

I finally added that extra level last night.. The stab to the nail bed was worth it I think 😥. Don't really know what to use it for right now but have hidden seeds and pea flakes in the hay and sock so that should keep him busy before he's set loose lol.

Looks great I don't know how you have arranged access to the basement, but you could consider putting some deep edging down there and filling it with deep substrate, hay, whatever to make a digging area.

Nice one - Garf should love it! When I converted my basement, I opted for burrowing. Now, they sleep, bury their bits, and hoard/cause general mischief down there! They love it when I clean them out and they find they can quickly drag back in all the rubbish/treasure I've removed at ground level.......

moletteuk bouncy yes I've thought of this, getting Perspex glass around the sides, it's a great idea! There's a hole in the top left corner with a ladder attached going down but i may add a perch ladder and a tube to the left side in the space there that will do a u bend back into the cage.

Oh, and it's called my Chelsea extension!
I started with a mix of hemp and carefresh, but there's just hemp in there now. The purple at the top is the hood from a old dressing gown!
