Well rats! When that wheel was first posted on here, it was several pounds less, I think it was 25 pounds. Then it went up to 30 pounds within a couple of days. Now you are being charged 40 pounds plus!! So why the increases I wonder? I'm sorry it keeps getting higher. We do have some tutorials on how to make your own wheel using cake tins/metal candy tins/dog dishes, and the bearings from skateboards. Does that interest you? thanks for your reply no worries we have bought a solid wheel just waiting for it to arrive , i did see a video on youtube on how to make a wheel out of a caketin but it does say that the drill hole has to be dead centre of cake tin or the wheel wont run right , the wheel that we bought was a solid wheel but it looks like a cake tin lol we have ordered a 13" x 4" so i hope tom and jerry will like it i might get another wheel in the future depends on how they get on with this one and the pennies , thanks again for your help and advice

Wonderful in every way, Rednop! They look great, massive, easy to clean, very well kitted out, well ventilated, I hope the little fellas are loving it!

degumomofmany hi! Great cage, love how you have adapted it. It is very similar to my cage and I have been thinking of cutting a hole in the bottom level, having a bending tube connected and going down into the bottom storage part and creating another new level there. Could use wire mesh around it to close it in on acrylic and create a burrowing pit! What do you think? I have also found some hemp floor carpets from Zooplus that fit and cover the wire floor perfectly.

It's a palace, complete with turrets! Fantastic! You mean the chinchilla cage? Sorry, but it makes me cry for being so terribly small. Guys, you would not even keep smaller degus in it as it is far below the minimum size we use to recommend for degus. Please don't tell me that you consider it great for chinchillas. Where can the chinchilla run or jump? Even the running wheel is too small. Could be appropriate for degus but surely it is not for chins. It is such a pity you did not provide some more space for these active animals. You seem to have the knowledge for building something really good, but by making it far too small I consider it - sorry for my harsh words - a waste of money and not suitable for the animals. rednop : You did a great job and can be proud of it. I am sure, your degus enjoy their new home every day.

Maravilla, I totally see your point, and confess that I, a global moderator here, failed to point out the smallness of the size. If you want to take exception to anyone here, I am your target. I didn't say anything because I know so little about chinchillas, and because I hated to tear apart the efforts made by the owner to make a cage that looked so lovely. The intent of that cage build is good, the result admittedly is less so. I have nothing for information which I can point at that is specifically geared to the needs of the chinchilla, and so I held my tongue. I suppose that one could point out that to say nothing is to perpetuate conditions that are below standard, and I would not argue. It is a valid point. The only thing I could have said with any authority is that degus require more space than that cage provides, and it would follow that an animal that is as active and much larger would require even more space. If you have some information that we can tap into and post as guidelines for the care and housing of Chinchillas, we would greatly appreciate it very much.

Maravilla I'm so glad you said this. I thought the exact same when I saw it yesterday but was worried how it would come across if I said something

Had to get this together for an unexpected addition this week. Not too bad for short notice, but lots of room for improvements. Just the one little guy in there (clue top right corner) so plenty of room. Maybe when his health is improved I can think about adopting him a friend.

randomname that's the cage I have for my lone guy. Although it's open most of the day and he has access to an entire floor, he loves being in his cage. I've made the top another level and am thinking of making the bottom storage part another level. You've given me some new ideas on things to put in his cage! Love the big cozy hanging nest and love the wooden steps! We have the same wheel :-P

Hi Garfunkel85. I got the igloo from Littlepetwarehouse.co.uk. They do loads of different fabrics & they're not a bad price. My little guy loves sitting on top of it (& storing a nice collection of poop up there!) These are just bits I had in the shed from when we had the previous degus & the chinchilla, never used them. Am going to make some wooden trays with high sides for the bases I think, prevent the poop halo round the cage hopefully. Best thing about this cage compared to others I've had that looked very similar, is that the front opens up completely, really easy to clean.

randomname oh thanks for that! I've ordered 3 new hanging bed thingies in the cream. A igloo, tunnel sock thing and a new hammock. All for only 18.95! So excited for them to arrive! Wonder which one he'll choose as his favourite

The igloos are massive, could fit a whole pile of degus in there all at once! The hammocks have quite long chains, so I found that really good - most are too short imo. Never tried the tunnel sock thingy, can you tag me in 'photos when you get it - would love to see it in use. They're pretty good quality for the price I'd say, let me know what you think? They have some fantastic cages too, great prices compared to other online shops. I always point people there for cages, instead of the stupid Thickets style ones (or cruddy poop collectors as I call them!!) Glad I could help, hope your goo loves them
