That is incredible! And so chewable. Lol
Seriously a doff of the cap as that is the most elegant DIY build I have seen. Good luck with the introductions.

Thanks mhb. I've tried to protect all the chewable bits with aluminium and most of the parts that are not are pretty easy to replace and not difficult to make should the need arise I've kept all the templates for the parts so would just mean running some wood thru the saw and router etc. The introductions are going well. Had another meeting last night and there was slightly less boxing than before so presume that they are getting to know (put up with) each other better each time. Mark. ps, I'm thinking about offering to make ladders for anyone who may be interested (like the long ones in my pictures). I could make them to whatever size people wanted. Will maybe post in the for sale section soon and see what response I get.

I like that idea, Mark. I think you should give it try. Make sure you post a picture of the ladder so it is right there for people to see. If you could get a picture of a degu using it, or sitting on a part of it, that would also be helpful.

Hi Mark,
I would love a ladder like that for my new build (I have been side tracked by work and finances and holidays so I promise I will post up new pictures and blog entries soon!) but I need to measure the height first. I think it will be of similar length to yours looking at your pictures, but I will get back to you next week after I have progressed it.
Thanks

Hi mhb It would be my pleasure to build you a ladder I have also just finished a set of steps for my cage (pic attached), and am in the process of advertising in a few local pet shops for the sale of these items that I will make to any size requested. I will within a few days put the same notice and pics in the for sale section here too. As for your ladder, if you want me to make you one, just let me know how long and wide you want it. My rungs are 9cms apart but if you wanted them wider, that's no problem. I,m not sure if we can (allowed) to organise transactions on the site, so if you wanted to mail me directly you can at...... onlymeee1 at googlemail dot com (obviously replace at and dot) I'm sure I can give you a good quote ;D ps please excuse the cat hiding under the stairs Mark.

Hello again! Wow - those steps are awesome! Might have to request an upgrade providing they come without cat. I will have to take a few measurements tonight - got carried over the weekend fitting sliding doors on the front of the box and forgot. I'll email me directly either tonight or tomorrow morning. Thanks. mhb

MrMark please do post these in the sales board and yes, please feel free to transact from there. So far we have no rule forbidding such things, except that they must be conducted from that board, and it must not involve animals. Your stairs look brilliant!

Hi again guys and gals Glad you like the steps. They take a bit longer to make than the ladders but if anyone wants one they should be on the for sale section by tomorrow. mhb, you can have either or both, just ask Think they might come complete with cat tho...... only joking ;D pixie, I can indeed post either ladders or steps. The steps joined together with very strong (degu-safe) glue. Its so strong that once I tried to pull 2 pieces apart and the wood broke instead !!! They will of course be wrapped in bubble wrap before posting. The steps are made from pieces of square kiln dried pine, routed out on one corner then sanded and glued. Look forward to hearing from you (all) ;D Mark. ps thanks deguconvert for the advice (and for the compliment)

Me Too !!!! ;D mhb, your ladder is now officially on its way to you I hope its ok and that your 3 girls enjoy using it. I'm extremely happy with the way it's turned out and is even better than the ones I made for my cage ;D To anyone else that might want a ladder or set of steps, I'm sorry I've not got round to getting the thread up in the for sale section yet, but will hopefully do it soon. If you need any details before I do, just mail me at the address in reply number 361 of this thread. Mark.

Oh wow thank you all! I have to say we are getting stupidly excited now, not least because after months we get to have date night dinner at the table again having freed up a large space in the lounge for some reason! I will (naturally) be taking too many pictures to document it. Mark - thank you that is amazing, I'm sure it will be just what is needed so we can add a new improved playpen to the front so they can interact with us in a safer more practical way for all. (No doubt a future entry!) I have added a few more articles this week so you can see how it is all taking shape. I really can't wait to see them tearing around this huge house!

Ladder arrived today - I will post pictures at some point for this too. I can say they are as elegant and well made as they look in the pictures.
Really pleased with it - thank you again Mark.

WOW! so many amazing homes! my boys need a bigger home! anyone got any contacts for affordable cages? I only have 2 goos and fairly limited space. I do have a playpen that they go in every night to run and climb in but that gets folded away so we have room.
Any suggestions appreciated! i have limited skill at DIY so be great to buy and maybe just pop in some additions if needed.
thanks!!!

The most popular bought cage comes under several different guises called Xtrail, Aventurer, Critter Nation, Liberta Explorer. There are good pics of one of these nicely kitted out, submitted my Mel on page 12 of this thread.
