Sorry to here this em, is it worse then you hoped? I was hoping it would be a little diddly spur that they could have removed today. But at least they're spurs growing downwards rather than sideways. bouncy okay.. I'll see how much it'll cost me. Gavin is back in on Saturday so they're going to ring me to discuss the plan and the price. I'll ask about x-rays. Does downward facing spurs indicate something then? X

It's more the spurs. If they're there, there's also the chance the roots themselves are misbehaving. Xrays are the only way to spot this. There won't be anything that can be done, but you can manage discomfort (aka Scaredygoo).

Companion Care have left me a voicemail re the price as I'm at my aunts and I have no signal so I can't call them. I'm here all day so I'll have to ring Monday re x-rays.
The operation on Tuesday will be between £50 - £60! To remove the two spurrs. They said it should be £90 but because I paid £30 on Thursday, they're knocking the £30 off!

That's not too bad a price, tbh, although I fully get that when you have limited funds everything looks expensive :/

Kev was up bright and early. Eventually got him in a tube. Poppy was still fast asleep in their huge nest and just as I was taking Kev out of the cage her little head emerged through all of the bedding lol. So funny.

I am very jealous of your veterinary practice, if train fare wouldn't negate the difference I'd be using yours instead of mine!

Thanks DL21. Just had a phone call from the vet nurse re Kev. Apparently there's no point in getting X-rays. Gavin looked in Kev's mouth properly, the bottom molar on the one side had broken, and was loose. It had then tried to grow back (the broken off bit) sideways, rather than up. So then his tooth was uneven, so the top molar on the same side, above it, had overgrown as it wasn't being ground down, it had also become loose. He's removed the two teeth to avoid any further problems, as the bottom one was incredibly loose from the break. Then filed all of his other teeth so they're super even, increasing the ability to eat normally.. Does this sound like he's done the right thing? They said they didn't want to remove the teeth, but with the one being so loose, if it fell out he could 1. choke on it, 2. the molar above it that was already overgrowing would continue to grow downwards, so they took that one out too. It overall reduces the risk of him having complications in the future. It sounds reasonable, and I don't know what else they'd have done otherwise. Still only going to cost me 50-60 I feel bad how cheap it is. I'm gonna get him some chocolates on the way down lol. But he's come round fine. He's a bit livid. Gonna get him at 6:15 because Cal will be back then and I'll need help carrying Kev and two bags of degu food lol. I can't imagine how he'd have broken a tooth so far back? Maybe mistreated at P@H, or with the breeder. I don't know. I don't know how he'd have managed it whilst in my care..

Emily, it sounds reasonable. Definitely the pulling the top tooth because the bottom tooth wouldn't be there, anyway. I don't have much experience with broken teeth, but I would have gone with that option if I'd been there.
His mouth will be sore for a few days from the filing, if Zoe was anything to go by, have some critical care or baby food on hand for a day or two but get him back to eating hard food asap. Also, given as they may have had to prop his jaw open to get the teeth out, keep an eye on the alignment of the front teeth and make sure they're wearing equally.

I don't think there was any choice what to do. Does he know if he got the full root out, or might they grow back?
I think even though the symptoms have been slightly unusual, this is still a genetic issue probably combined with diet issue (at PAH not with you). There wouldnt' necessarily need to be an incident, his teeth could just be weak.
If you get chance to speak to Gavin, ask him about calcium supplementation in the form of calcium carbonate, see if he recommends it as a temporary measure to try to correct any mineralisation issue that Kev might have. Or calcium and magnesium supplement, with or without vit D. The seeds we feed have high calcium content but it's not as straightforward and bioavailable as calcium carbonate would be.
Get well soon, Kev, and you have yourself a relaxing evening Em, it's horrible waiting for the all clear when they have been in for sedation x

All considered, broken teeth and all, things sound to have gone very well!! I hope he calms and relaxes, poor livid little guy. Bet he will be thoroughly thankful to be back with Poppy, and she will smother him with love and compassion.
