Yes, he had molars burred. He was fine with me, and he cuddled with me because I was warm - I know he likes it when he's sleepy For some reason, he won't eat anything remotely paste like. Even almond butter is given the evil eye! He prefers ground nuts and flax instead! Having said that, when we got back, I plonked him straight into the dust bath and opened the cage door. He and the others had a little run around, and I saw him eating discarded leaves on the floor. Gave him a little ground hazelnut as a treat, though. The wet spot is where they gave him some fluids, and gave him an intravenous dose of Metacam . Bless, when I went into the kitchen this afternoon, he was still waiting for the syringe at the bars

Well, Scaredy popped back to the vet today. His molars were growing inward over his tongue, and he's had a disagreement with either Spidey or an inanimate object, which damaged the enamel on one of his front teeth. Vet wasn't going to let him leave until he'd had some critical care. Told her he wouldn't take it, but it took ten minutes of her trying before she believed me and gave up On the plus side, he's back up to 269g! Recovery cuddles with mummy........ awww hes soo cute, im sorry about the bad news, wish my degus would cuddle me , how did you get him to do that? sorry i know whats random i hope he feels and gets better.

He just knows I'm the familiar thing when he's in strange and scary places! He was also still groggy from the gas.

Hope he feels better soon x
How does the not taking critical care go? Do you get it in his mouth and he just spits it out?

Sorry deguconvert, too many meds in this house beginning with m. Have amended! moletteuk I think he's getting used to these sedation trips, because he was perfectly fine by the evening and munching. Trying to give him something he doesn't want is entertainment in itself! If you try to syringe it, he keeps his mouth firmly shut and it goes EVERYWHERE but, even as a burrito. If you give him something he does what and try to sneak the syringe in at the back, he'd rather spit the other out to block the syringe. Anything that does get into his mouth is rapidly ejected. If you offer it on a spoon or dish, he doesn't want to know, and it gets trampled on by all!

AH!!Bouncy! You mean they gave him some metacam intravenously, and once home, he wanted his usual tasty treat . . . which of course is the metacam. POOR GUY! He wouldn't understand at all why you weren't giving it to him.

When I popped in this afternoon, who was the only one not still snoozing in bed? Yep, Scaredygoo!

Yep! He put up quite a fight with the vet, only settling with his mum. He was even picking on Spidey last night, and munching through every dandelion root I offered him!

Spidey has been picking on him over the last few days, but I've put him firmly in his place. He wouldn't allow Scaredygoo out of the cage today. He's fine in himself (running around in the wheel, jumping, climbing), but he has an extra snotty left nostril and gunky left eye. I've managed to wipe away some of the gunk with a cotton bud, but will need a more thorough session later. I'm guessing the roots are advancing...

No! That would not be good news. I pray a halt to any roots advancing, and complete clearing of eye and sinuses!

Do you have antibiotics (Bayrtil) to give him? When my goo Lilac's eye would start looking squinty, I would treat her with a round of Baytril to help deal with any infection that might be brewing.

Guys where do you get your metacam And baytril? From your vets or online?

I don't have any baytril, but I did put in some eye ointment from the gerbils.
Metacam and baytril are prescription drugs only, I'm afraid.

Emziedee - I get from my vets but you have to see the vet first to get diagnosis and I ask for extra and keep it for emergencies.

He may require Baytril because there may be an infection in the nasal cavity from the intruding root. If you ring up the vet, they might prescribe it without another appointment because they know the situation already. (Just read that the the problem with the eye is due to an injury. In that case, the eye ointment should suffice. )
