What a day! Did you manage to find somebody who could syringe feed him? Hopefully he will start eating normally enough very soon so that he won't need it. I know the staff at my local Pets Corner very well and they've pretty much adopted the gerbils. One of them lives a mile away, has a key, and has looked after everyone before

Great, I'm sure that's a weight off your mind. Will your mum be able to work out if he makes progress with eating for himself? Or I guess the Pets Corner person will be able to offer the add piece of hard food and see if he eats it. He'll be fine, it's only a few days x

Mum has diligently been in every day, given him meds, given him a couple of dishes of ground nuts (which only he eats), and heating the snugglesafe. He was tearing around when I got back! He's not gained weight, but not lost any either.
Can't remember if I posted, but I got a call from mum driving from the airport to the nursing home last week. She thought everyone was in from the big cage, and let out the others. She realised the c0ck up when she saw four running. Scaredygoo was running around with all of them, apparently all playing together, before mum realised and caught him!

Yep, she did brilliantly. She told me Squidgy and the pups were badly behaved, not going back into the cage etc. They weren't allowed out the following days as punishment. Because he's behaving badly and has a stripe, mum has taken to calling Squidgy Gremlin (think Gremlins 2).

Just been back to see the degu specialist for a follow-up. He's very impressed with the little dude! In the last couple of weeks, he's managed to put on 20g! Nothing to do with me taking 40 minutes to catch him to get there

Yep! He fought with John all the way, and gave me a warning nip (soft bite, no blood etc) to say he wasn't happy too! Stopped at the shop on the way back and got him another snuggly bed for winter

Well, Scaredy popped back to the vet today. His molars were growing inward over his tongue, and he's had a disagreement with either Spidey or an inanimate object, which damaged the enamel on one of his front teeth. Vet wasn't going to let him leave until he'd had some critical care. Told her he wouldn't take it, but it took ten minutes of her trying before she believed me and gave up On the plus side, he's back up to 269g! Recovery cuddles with mummy........

Hmmm . . . so vets suffer from the belief that they can accomplish something the owner could not, like doctors do with children!! I guess there will be different skill sets both strong and weak with parents/owners and doctors/vets, so they may be correct in some instances. I wear the, "I told you so" expression fairly often, LOL!!
Did he have his molars burred then? So glad he is enjoying the cuddles with you!! The wet spot on his side, is that a wound?

What do you mean by scaredy not taking the critical care bouncy? I thought it could be syringe fed like meds?

I think he just absolutely and utterly REFUSES to take it. In his opinion it is NOT food.

Tibbs would refuse number 2 of the meds.. it was a clear one that was to help balance his tummy and help him poop... ohhhh he hated number 2!!!! Luckily it was followed by number 3, the honey flavoured loxicom.
I really had to force that second one in him, so glad that's all over! He's completed that course yesterday and been in such a better mood today not having that ghastly number 2

ROFL!! The nasty number 2!!! Sounds like a rather private form of suffering.
