I'll gladly say it again, Excellent catch, Yasmin!! So glad you are their human! So many people would miss the signs, dc is right, you're so quick off the mark to spot the signs & get the problem sorted. Wish more people were as fast to get their furry friends help, don't they know it's often cheaper than letting things get worse? (not to mention much fairer to the degu) I am so glad you're willing to do whatever is required, some weirdos people think it's easier better to euthanize & get another. Hope things get better for your bank balance soon

Thank you, Bouncy!! I think I sometimes type too quickly, or at least with sloppy fingers, and that just TOTALLY messes up the smilies. They are as finicky and fussy as degus! Thanks for the helping fingers.

I think Bouncy figured out you need double spaces between multiple smilies.

Yeah . . . sometimes I miss the shift key so get 8 instead of *, and other times I'm typing so fast that the double space is missed. Guess I need to slam my fingertips on the key board a little harder!! Then if I go back and put in the spaces that I missed originally, I get those weird things in brackets. But hey . . . you will always know who did it, if for whatever reason you don't see the username. LOL!

Yeah, I get them sometimes after an edit and have to delete the lot and start again. Maybe we just say it adds character?

Jin has started sneezing and she has wetness on one side of her face probably due to tearing in one eye. I have made an appointment with the vet but the soonest I could get is Thursday morning. I will start her on Baytril tonight. Very worried that this might be caused by molar roots invading her nasal cavity or eye socket. Will proceed on the premise that it is just a respiratory infection and treat is as such. She is eating, which is a good sign.

I try 😟 Metacam seems to be helping. She refuses to take the baytril mixed with baby food. Don't want to stress her by forcing her to take it unless it is necessary. Will keep an eye on her.

He checked her out. Breathing issues are with inspiration, lungs clear, heart fine. So it is probably molar roots invading her nasal cavity 😓 He says she also has a spur growing on a bottom molar but it is small so he recommended we wait a week or so. We will have X-rays taken when she is under anesthetic for the teeth. Until then, I am to give her metacam twice a day for the next 4 days to see if it brings her significant relief. She has also lost weight - even though she is eating.

Took Jin to the vet today. Her breathing has gotten worse and last week I spotted some blood-tinged drool so I figured it was time to have the spurs that the vet spotted last checkup removed. She had quite a number of spurs and the x-rays showed that her molar roots are a mess. There is a root growing into her nasal cavity – pretty far into it. There are also roots growing up into her skull between the eye and the ear. And there are roots growing downward from her lower jaw. All we can do now is palliative – make sure she eats all that she can to keep her energy level up, manage the pain through Metacam, and do all I can to give her the best quality of life she can have until she cannot breath anymore. All spurs were removed but she is in pain because one of the spurs was so close to her tongue that removal has caused a bit of trauma to that area. My poor dear JinJin. What a shame to be so healthy otherwise, yet be killed by one's teeth. So very disturbing/distressing/depresing; can only imagine what she is going through, poor dear baby. I hope (albeit selfishly) that she can make it until October to celebrate her 6th birthday.

I'm sorry her roots are so bad, it must have been shocking to see it in black and white How much do you think the metacam is helping? Wishing her a speedy recovery from the spur removal.
