Hi everyone, we recently purchased a pair of males, they are more entertaining than any other small animal we have had before, a lot more messy than any we have had also, I will be popping up all over the forum asking questions, thanks in advance jase

Welcome, Jase Hope you enjoy having a look around, check out cage info and feeding guide, particularly if you got your boys from Pets at Home.

Hello and welcome, Jase! Congratulations on your new furry loves. They certainly are very entertaining. So much information on this forum, so do look through it all. Degus come with what can be a rather large learning curve, so if you have any questions at all, please do ask us.

Thanks for the welcome, yes I did get them from pets at home with the cage they recommend but we are having a much larger cage delivered today which I will be building and adding pine shelves at the weekend It measures 92x64x160cm

That sounds good, and the PAH cage might come in handy as a spare.
Are you having fun getting to know your boys?

Getting to know them is hard as I work away, but the wife and kids have them jumping onto their hands and up their arms so I don't think it will be too long before they are out on their adventures around the lounge

That sounds good You might need to get a cardboard tube ready to retrieve them if they go exploring and think about a play pen or making the room safe, hiding electric cables, waving goodbye to pristine skirting boards and so on

Welcome to the world of degus!
I have one of those metal Marshall play pens for my three but I have recently had to invest in a cover for the top as they keep crawling up over the top to escape even though the pen is about 3ft high with only 1 horizontal fitting.

They love the new cage, slightly bigger than we thought but very happy, if I knew how to post photos I would

You need to use a photo hosting site like Photobucket. Upload pics to photobucket and then just copy and past the IMG tag, which is the last one in the boxes of code showing for each photo. Literally just paste the code text into your reply box on here.

@ nat welcome to the forum, no problem with questions on here, there aren't any silly questions about degus. lilac55 Do you literally mean escaped and lost, or did he die? I'm sorry for your loss if he died. Probably best if you start a new thread and tell us more about your situation.

I think it varies from goo to goo. Our girls seem to like anything that makes a noise, our older boys are furry chewing machines, anything they can munch on they like and our younger boys are a bit of an odd pair; they like their wheel and seesaw but just seem incredibly picky about what they want when. We recently bought them a stuffed toy which was flavour of the week until for some reason Brian went nuts on it and tried to kill it!!

Check out our accessories area for some ideas deguworld.proboards.com/thread/18716/accessories-bedding-toy-ideasMine love chewing all things wood, but mainly fresh twigs and branches, they love chewing and eating the bark. They also love nesting, and spend time making and maintaining their nests. And they love anything and everything food related. Other than that its wheeling, saucering and sleeping.
