Okay, so I finally got round to doing it, it's a relatively simple design and requires three things: - 2 pieces of material (I chose fleece and a cotton print)
- Thread
- Eyelets
1) Cut the material to the same size (this particular hammock is 30x40cm/12x15.75 inches): 2) Pin the pieces together so that the material you want on the outside of the hammock is facing into each other. Put the pins in so that there is an inch gap from the edge: 3) Mark a sewing guide around the material a cm from the edge, leaving a 5cm (2 inch) gap on one side: 4) Sew around the guide lines, starting from one edge of the 5cm gap and finishing at the other. 5) Turn the hammock inside out: 6) Sew as close to the edge of the hammock as you can to close up the gap Optional: quilt the fabric by stitching across the fabric diagonally, and then turn it 90 degrees and stitch across the fabric diagonally to make a diamond patternHere's the tutorial for putting eyelets in: deguworld.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=Cage&thread=16698

Wow. Nice hammock; great how-to. Should have my sewing room/degu room up and running in a month or so. Can't wait to make my first hammock.

I will be testing out a few different designs soon, as long as the sewing machine can cope. If it turns out well, I'll do some more how to's (and maybe some what not to do's - I'm always doing silly things) on double hammocks, cosy corner hammocks, cubes, tubes and the likes! I should probably say, I won't be stepping on Fuzzymum's own unique designs, just the tried and tested classics, they're hers to decide if she wants to share the design or not!

Thanks Kins, I prefer to quilt as it stops them from chewing one layer and burrowing inside like the devils they are! I decided this particular hammock will be going into a charity Christmas shoebox for Pixie Rodent Rescue, seen as I have enough material to make a new design that I had in mind for the boys

great how to, i was just about to start making one of these hammocks, but just wanted to ask what size the one you made was, as unsure of what a good size for a hammock for two to three degus would be and wondered roughly what dimentions you had made yours

Erm I believe it was 30x40 cm or something close, I'll measure it up to double check!

thanks that would be great have looked out some fabrics that i think will go with the fleece i managed to buy from work (the only cheep fleece we had left was lime green :/ ) so now just have to figure out where to set my sewing machine up in the living room, because my sewing room is far too cold to sew in atm (less than five mins in there going through fabric and my fingers were freezing ) and then i'll get started and see what i can do
