Looks really good, I sewed on tubes to make hangers like that when I made a hammock. I folded them over at the ends to make a loop and then used carabiniers/ snap hooks to attach to cage.

Great job! Is it hard to learn how to use a sewing machine? I'd love to make one of these

Great job! Is it hard to learn how to use a sewing machine? I'd love to make one of these Well it's pretty easy to sew this sort of thing on a machine as it's mainly straight lines, that's the only way I've managed But I wouldn't say it was hard, tedious perhaps if you have a bad machine like my mam does.

Oh, Shads, if you wouldn't mind, if you make another one then would you do a quick tutorial on how to make the tab hangers? Just for those who don't want to buy a load of eyelets for the sake of making one hammock lol.

Ee guys they're fab! We just tear up old towels/t-shirts and tie bits of string from the edges to the bars. Never occurred to me to make a proper plushy me like that, seing as they usually have broken it within a week and eaten it within a month. Maybe if it was cool and dapper like these they wouldn't!

Thanks Shads, you're a star Can't wait to see your hutch (and goos)! Oh mine have very little respect for anything Juslig, saying that, my last hammock did escape withjust a few small holes in it lol. I've been busy at the machine tonight and should have a few new tutorials for you all this week

So, before I go and start sewing a bunch of cute little hammies for my new guys, are degus big fabric chewers? Because I tried making nice hammocks for my rats once upon a time, and they all ended up destroyed within the week. I even got "lucky" and I have a ferret who eats fabric (she's a weirdo ) so I have to be very careful when I buy or make hammocks for my ferrets to get things she can't or won't chew, too. So, as much as I'd love to make cute comfy stuff for the degus, I'm not going to waste my time if it's going to be destroyed within days of hanging it Once burned, twice shy, as they say.

It really depends on the degus, try them out on a simple bit of fabric tied to the cage as a hammock and see if they like to chew it.

I'll give it a shot. It'd sure be nice to have critters I can make nice things for who don't destroy them.
