Hey, so we had a pregnant degu, i think she was about 2 1/2 months pregnant, thus morning she was having breathing difficulties etc we went out for abit, just got back in and she has had the babies, seen 4 alive (hairless eyes closed, but moving and squeking alot) 2 dead and evidence if some eating! Ive put hay in the cage (corner away from nest, didnt want to disturb it). Mumma seems to be looking after them, dragging back to nest when they escape. Im going to put the heater on so its warm in there and make sure mumma and cage mate have food, anyother advice?, this is my first litter and is quite distressing luckily my other half has experience! Anychance they'll make it?

Update, theres now 6/7 alive all in a nest of warm hay , mum is still possibly giving birth? Holding out hope as the 2/3 new ones have open eyes. Going to leave her for a few hours again before we check. Fingers crossed they make it.

Hi, I really hope your little ones will make it. Them moving around is really good sign. Keeping them warm as you do is essential now. U can give mum some more nesting material, teatowel or peices of cotton, also straw can keep them warm nicely. Is her cagemate male or female? She can get pregnant straight away after finishing birth. Also you can now give mum some more fatty treats to keep her energy up and her milk will be more nutritional. Keep an eye on babies but mum as well.
(You said there's some evidence of eating dead babies, it's not cannibalism or anything, they try to get rid of dead bodies so it wouldn't attract predators in the wild)

I'm sorry about the pup that didn't make it through. It could be that it will be a real battle for them all to survive, being born premature as they have been. Good thing for them they have been born in your home!! You are doing a great job of assisting them!!

What a cuties. They actually doesn't look that premature. Maybe a bit too tiny, but could be because there was originally 9 of them. Wishing them lots of luck!

You're poor girl looks like she swallowed a grapefruit! Ditto! That is the most pregnant goo I have ever seen, no wonder she had so many. So sorry for your loss, but 6 little gooeys is very impressive. I also thought 'they don't look too premature' like Ady, perhaps a little small, but they are quite fury and sound like they are doing very well! Glad all seems ok so far. Look forward to seeing more pictures as they progress!

She was massive, maybe the babies aren't as premature as i first thought then, i'd worked out the birth to be in 12 days time, perhdps i misjudged. They all seem fine and are behaving as i'd expect a baby too. Will try to get some pictures later of all 6 , thanks for all the comments and support.
